Not true. Even in the first season, there were mummurs about it; murmurs because we were winning…
Secondly, we DO NOT have players at the level of Spain. Being at the level of Spain is not simply about the technical quality of individual players, but the culture of the game, the primacy of the ball, and the movement around it. The only player we had in MF in 2024/25 who fit the bill was Macca.
Even in the crowd, many get impatient with this kind of football…
What does it even mean, “only for the first 6 months”?
We played football under his game model for the entire season; some good, some not so good; some bad…
And it worked, leading to a title. And in the 2nd season, it never really started…save for the odd game or two…
As for Quansah, let me say that I am not in the boat of those who pine for what they no longer have, just becuase he’s not there…
I like him as a player. I watch him in the bundesliga, but he’s average on the ball at best.
His life seems very easy… no tactical awareness, no knowledge of the game or players in it, cheap “SPORT AR INGERLUND” that even Ian Wright saw was a bit pathetic years ago.
To be fair to Wooney, his life’s been very easy ever since he made however many tens of million as a footballer. At least this way, he’s staying busy and a few grannies are also getting an easier life…
The comments are a disgrace BTW, one could also take a sporting attitude, rather than verbally abusing the player or the club. Surely it must be possible to wish him all the best from a purely sporting perspective.
These people have to remember we are global team based in Liverpool, its how its changed. I couldn’t support this Argentinian team due to the Enzo Fernandez stuff but the club social media isn’t doing this for England fans and have already highlighted Munoz making the final.
If England reaches the final, they’ll presumably hurl abuse at every single Muñoz post just the same. The comment, “Typical Liverpool, and you wonder why nobody likes you,” is one of the milder ones.
And the admin didn’t even wish Alexis good luck or say anything offensive. He simply announced that he was playing today. And yet, everyone is freaking out anyway.
Hand of God. Then Simeone play acting to get Beckham sent off. I would laugh my arse off if the tables were turned today, and England advance because of some dodgy goal or decision.
My preference would be England plays well in a great game against a good Argentina side, and advances to the final by fair means. Here’s hoping.
My fear is that the American refs will have been leaned on to go by a certain script, which is to make sure Messi gets to the final. I don’t expect fair officiating, and I fully expect Argentina to exploit that with all the dark arts on display. If people think that’s unfair, I refer you to the previous World Cup history between the sides. Let’s see if Argentina can prove me wrong and win by fair means today. If they do, hats off to them.
Got the day off. People coming over. Beers chilled in the fridge. Can’t wait.
And WE DO have players at the level of Spain.
International football is a standard below top level club football. You’re quite incorrect with that opinion.
I would say that it is an unfortunate fact of the modern game that we have spent a little over a decade in an era where robust defence and quick counters have been largely ascendant for ball control.
That just isn’t the nature of Argentinian, and indeed most South American football. We saw how different the mentality is with Luis Suarez, for better and for worse.
The only reason that England should not pay them back in kind is because they just won’t be as good at it as Argentina. But if Harry Kane gets a penalty with one of his patented drag-foot dives, I will shed no tears.
Does anyone really expect from these people to take two seconds to think before headbutting the keyboard/phone?
If Slot had been able to produce a team that exerted even partially the level of control that Spain enjoys, he would still be managing Liverpool and not be on the unemployment list.
His philosophy and wants matter for nothing if he isn’t capable of implementing them.
