If everything your organisation does involves corruption, politics and bowing to power I don’t think that organsiation can complain if people start asking why what’s happening with refs decisions should be the one exception.
They could and should lodge a complaint. But it would be treated like any bad refereeing cases or referee errors. They might receive an apology after reviewing the referee performance but to bring it the level of corruption or losing because of racism is another level that the coach was insinuating. To be honest, I think it’s quite frivolous for the coach to claim racism was the cause of bad referee decisions just because he felt it was are doing a disservice to real cases of racism on field
No. Hassan is 25yrs now I think..Never quite gotten to the level initially hoped, but had a good WC. Perhaps he parlays that to a transfer from Oviedo.
They really should be producing more talented young players. Abdelkarim apart…
I didn’t mention racism though.
My argument is that Argentina/Messi will be aided where possible to win the World Cup. Messi is a US based soccer star, his presence is dollars and building a future for the ‘product’.
Yes, he is among the best ever players, yes he might just win another World Cup.
But last night Egypt were cheated.
Corruption, bias… call it what you like, they were cheated.
This should be the greatest spectacle in football. Instead, its tawdry and shabby and governed by moronic cheats. Trump getting involved was the rancid icing on this festering cake.
Edit.
Egypt manager waving Palestine flag in the “Land of the Free” wasn’t entirely unnoticed. Brave decision to do such a thing, might have been taken into account for Trumps morning updates with Infantino
Thats a conspiracy by the way
I fucking hope Morocco or Norway win the fucking thing
I’m wondering now how far VAR can go back to check for fouls?
14 seconds from the clear foul to the goal without another Argentinian touching the ball. Not sure what the issue is.
No one actually knows as they left the protocol decidedly vague about it. The guiding principal is not go searching for reasons to disallow a goal so they have directed VAR to go back into the play only far enough where the incident was in the same phase of play (requires subjective judgements about how much control of possession the other team needs to have won to reset play), is close to the scoring of the goal that the other team didn’t have the opportunity to “reset” (exact definition is?), or that the defending team didnt have the opportunity to stop the attack (again, this means what precisely?)
Everyone might have an idea in their head of what all this means, but we’re left to look at how refs apply this to get a sense of what the law makers think this means and we have repeatedly seen the PGMOL justify a lack of intervention because the incident was too far back int he sequence of play that it would violate the spirit of VAR to look at it.
But there is also a sense that the further back the more egregious it has to be. Even without the issue of the goal, calling this a foul would give the Egyptians room to complain that it was far stricter than the ref was applying to challenges on them and far stricter than the line that has been followed throughout this world cup on Collina’s direct orders
I didn’t say I had an issue I asked how far back can they go. 20? 30? 60? Surely we need some sort of clear definition.
As @Limiescouse said in his response its all open to interpretation currently but that leads to inconsistency.
Even defining phase would be a nice start. Earlier in the tournament a goal was allowed where the goalscorer had clearly been offside in the build-up (cross was aimed at him, didn’t touch it but defender had to because of the forward being there) and the attacking team immediately crossed it back in and the player scored having returned to an onside position. They decided the two crosses were different phases of play, seperated by about 2 seconds, therefore not offside. However this was deemed to be the same phase but had a much longer time, two transitions through defence and midfield, multiple passes and dribbles. So what is a phase?
[insert George Washington Gif]
The issue for me is:
If that’s a foul, then the one on Salah in the penalty area is a foul.
One way or other, Egypt have a genuine cause for complaint
Forget it mate as @Maria said wait until the match between England/Norway against Argentina if those two teams manage to beat Argentina then we will have to accept that the ref was dodgy and Egypt were unlucky to have him.
This is about how I see it.
I won’t go as far as a conspiracy, like some, but I will say definite inconsistency, and probable favoritism (subconscious most likely) toward the bigger nations.
(I know Egypt is a big nation, but I’m talking bigger in terms of footballing pedigree).
No footy today. I walked the dog and I might actually have a productive day at work. Until we go again…
Are they sure?
This is EXACTLY what they did and what they do with VAR
I hate the world cup but I love you lot. So I’m back
Murat Yakin is hands down the coolest looking national team manager there is.
He looks more like a pimp on the sidelines than a manager!
Issue 999,999 with VAR…intervening on Mo’s had the complication of it occurring in the box and so it raises the bar for what constitutes a foul because intervening has to result in a penalty. Note this is not a defense, just pointing out the absurdity of the box the officials have put themselves in with
I think his Swiss team are the most underrated team in the World Cup , I remember when they eliminated France in the quarter finals of the Euros, I underestimated them then.
