I generally hate international football and usually just watch the odd match during international tournaments but this WC was the best since 82/86 imo. Some great matches and a fantastic race for the golden boot involving Messi, Mbappe and Haaland.
Last night was dreadful though, a shite match and that fucking monstrosity of a half-time show. What possesses great players like the 2 Ron’s to allow themselves to look like complete cunts is beyond me.

They are part of a group of about 10 ex pros who are paid ambassadors for the tournament. There was a story doing the rounds about how weird the deal was as FIFA pay them to attend the games with VIP level access and they sit back and get pitched to do marketing and promo stuff from official sponsors. They are not required to say yes to anything but get paid extra if they do. Which I guess theoretically means a partner can pay FIFA to the chance to pitch to these guys and get shut down by everyone leaving them with nothing

Kind of amusing to see how all of the plaudits for Argentina are doing a hard reverse as it becomes obvious how painfully limited that side truly is.
What a missed opportunity for England. I don’t think they would have beaten Spain, but if they had had the courage they likely would have made for a better game to watch.
We won’t see him for three months now, while he recovers.

Obviously they are better than us, but in a one off game you never know and we should be a tougher match than Argentina.
I think our midfield would have been more of a challenge for them, even if they would have still won that battle. So the game would have been a bit more contested.

I enjoyed the final. Spain played lovely football. Just unlocked Argentina over and over again only to be denied by their own finishing. It was a joy to watch Argentina look less competent than Cabo Verde. Seeing that shithead Enzo get sent off was the icing on the cake.
Messi trying to get Cucurella sent off was hilarious. Just absurd and non-sporting. A desperate ploy from a desperate side that had no answers other than to flop and pray for the referee’s intervention.
Spain deserved this one.
