The squad he picked for this tournament was built to play this game. And it failed. Not just because it lost, but because the game plan the whole thing was based on failed and the only direction he had with the players he had in alternate were to go even more defensive, when the game was crying for them to get a hold of the ball.

If only he could have picked someone who can play a devastating pass from right back.

Trent wasn’t the solution to what was going wrong here, but his absence was reflective of how the squad he put together didn’t have another game mode available to it.

But for me, the moment Rogers fucked up that counter demanded a big reaction from the manager to demand more sense in how we used the ball, and made a change to get that trait into midfield. He didn’t really have anyone except for Kobee

Well, you called this one very early. I don’t know if it’s because they didn’t have enough in the tank and Tuchel knew it, but that’s not a great way to go out. Feels like they could have been more brave.

I remember. I also remember that it wasn’t considered anything to play for in the English press, which is bonkers to me. You only get to a semi final once now and then, not every WC. So chance of a medal is rather rare.

But Argentina has been so much better in the second half than you were in the first half, so moot point.

Argentina never showed the ability to play through the midfield. They only looked better when England simply stopped making them to do that.

What an awful, awful way to lose. I am not an England fan really, just more appalled at the awful aesthetic of it.
