Message from Nelson at the battle of Trafalgar…
No texting in those days eh

Reaching the summit of Mt. Everest, this climber unfurled the Messi shirt instead of a flag.
That is what’s called devotion I suppose.
Any LFC fans on the way up there in the near future…
I have a Kloppo shirt here they can take for us :upside_down_face:

Wouldn’t it be decent if in recognition Messi did something like take that guy out for a meal or a beer or what ever.

Apparently he did acknowledge the guy and thanked him

What?
So now messi shirts littering Mt Everest.
What next? Messi discussions all over social media?

This is one of my favourite flags.

I visited this country in the year it attained independence. I flew in on a single engined charter plane, at times flying lower than the tops of the sand dunes. Incredible experience. Loads of stories from that trip, including the scariest experience of my life, but just wanted to mention two things that showed how welcoming and friendly people are there.

The first is that I wrote a few postcards to people in the UK on the flight but left them on the plane by mistake. They were found by the aircrew and posted for me. They wrote me a lovely letter which I’ve still got, 31 years later.

The second moment was about a week later our minibus ran out of petrol so I got a Jerry can and started walking down the road to get to the nearest petrol station, which would have been a few miles away.

On the way a police car pulled over and offered to give me a lift. The policeman was so friendly and enthusiastically told me about this wonderful runner who was going to challenge the world in the 100m and 200m. I had never heard of him but sure enough, a year or two later, Frankie Fredericks was winning World and Olympic medals! He became probably my favourite non-GB athlete during this time.

The flag itself is said to reflect…

  • Red – represents Namibia’s most important resource, its people. It refers to their heroism and their determination to build a future of equal opportunity for all.
  • White – represents peace, unity, tranquility, and harmony.
  • Green – symbolises vegetation and agricultural resources.
  • Blue – represents the clear Namibian sky and the Atlantic Ocean, the country’s precious water resources and rain.
  • Golden-yellow sun – life and energy
