I think that´s actually wrong and unfortunately it´s worse than that.
On day 1 he was trying stuff. Nowadays he plays much more simple and risk averse. He´s arguably worse.
His confidence seems to be gone.
I dont agree with this about advanced postions he gets himself in poor positions 3 times on Saturday he had himself out on the left in a space you could have thrown a blanket over with Kerkez and Barcola why. I find hes like a 10 year old gets attracted to the ball.
Nyoni played well for 65 minutes got caught out a couple of times did the simple stuff well over all not bad for a 19 year old. Is he ready for a more involvement yeah but he isn’t a regular starter yet . But when you get statements from people that hes the 2nd best midfielder at the club is just too over reaching. Rio was anointed super star last season and hes shown its a step learning curve.
Yes he wants the ball and is looking all the time to move in to receive the ball, his movement to get open has been commented on numerous times by those who analyse the game, not pundts as they don’t have a clue.
What an understatement on how Trey performed, he regualarly found the right pass for the situation and on m6any times that was forward through the lines to feet, Also, for a 19 year old, his positioning in all phases, but especially defensively covering the hole in front of the defense was excellent and what we have been missing.
Lastly, we were far worse when he and McConnell were replaced by Szob and Grav.
Im not saying he wasn’t bad i said he did perfectly fine. But thats one hell of an over egging of a performance.
He played 65 minutes and in the time he was on the pitch he made less mistaes than both Grav and Szob who were on for half the time.
It isn’t overegging it is stating what happened.
I agree he cant play every minute or be the 1st name on the sheet but his performances, preseason and the miutes he has played he has permed very well for the team.
I don’t think him covering ground is a bad thing, it should be lauded in fact. The key question then is of course where are the grounds he is covering and what is the output from him covering these grounds as an advanced attacking player. In Bayer he also covers plenty and still get good output in numbers so that should be what needed to be looked into not whether he should be running this much.
Nothing happening in January but if stuff like this come up you know that we’ll try to sell next summer if he doesn’t improve drastically soon.
Said my bit on Wirtz early on. Don’t think he’s going to improve on that #10 in the PL but can’t see Iraola change formation for him.
I’m sure he would get back to his best in Germany and Spain immediately but don’t think there are many Clubs interested to buy.
I don’t mind selling him but not at a huge discount and no one will probably pay 100mil for him at this point of time. So rather keep him and let Iraola work with him for this season at least and see whether he can show up.
However, by January the picture will be clear.
If the Football Insider is posting it you know he will be here in 2028.
I think people are far more convinced in their own view than any actual factual information.

He’s starting to piss me off. Getting bullied and outmuscled is one thing, not being able to hit simple 5-yard passes with no one near him is another.
I don’t know if he’s just going through a poor period or if there’s something bigger at play, but at times he looks as if he’s playing with no confidence. He improved in the second half, and it was his involvement that allowed Isak to get the goal, but he really has to do better than this.
Good thing that he gets to spend 2 weeks with Klopp now. Might be just what the doctor ordered.

messing up a lot and he´s just passing sideways and back and not doing anything particularly special
We know the midfield isnt great at giving him the ball but when he does get it, you do expect some bit of quality sometimes.

How many games like today’s does he have to play before we collectively lose faith in him? He and Isak look like the antitheses of football that Iraola wants to play - weak in duels, ponderous, poor movement (or rather poor positioning) but Wirtz being unable to play two yard passes to his teammate looked very concerning.
I don’t wanna sound like @GermanRed but I think that, one period before his injury last season aside, he’s slowly turning into a failed experiment that probably only Bayern might help us salvage in the end. I don’t know if it’s the system or personnel but I’m not seeing any consistently good aspects in his game that suggest he will become a 100M player at Liverpool.

I would say I’ve been keeping the faith longer than some, but after today even I’m starting to lose it. He just doesn’t seem to be gelling with team-mates at all and is starting to look like one of the main reasons we’re struggling in games.

Doubt Bayern are interested in buying him. Maybe Barca. Can see a loan to Dortmund next summer.

We can carry at most one such player as long as he is being productive (goals or direct assists). So Isak gets a pass.
Barcelona are actually a good shout because of the Flick connection. I’m sure he’d be back to his old self at either Barcelona or Bayern but I fail to see what he bring to this Liverpool team aside from constant running (which, admittedly, is non-negotiable quality under Iraola).
