Football chants from around the world

I really liked this catchy tune from Oldham Athletic, quite a singalong in the pub.

I remember there was something of a stooshie in Fife a few years ago when they featured a football chant on “They Think It’s All Over” which was somewhat disparaging of Cowdenbeath folk:

The offending lyric, to the tune of the Addams Family, was:

They come from near Lochgelly,
they’re dirty and they’re smelly,
they huvnae got a telly,
the Cowden Family

It was common before about 1980, to differentiate it from Rugby football, or rugger.

In fact, this is a BBC radio listing from 1980 for International Soccer Special:

Yup comes from association I believe, in fact the oddest thing is the use of football is probably more due to the fact that the countries that don’t use a term like soccer came more wide spread in the psyche.

I have to say, Adidas do their adverts really well.

The Everton one is very catchy with the added advantage that it isn’t too hard to remember.

All together now…Boo, Boo, Boo…….Boo, Boo, Boo

And then repeat the chorus.

Some of these football ads interesting and funny. I know these two are our rivals. I thought the end was funny.

I was actually queuing to get in when that happened. People cheered when he was pulled in, not because he had forced his way in, but because we thought he was going to fall and die.

There were definitely some loons around that day. There was also some problems with overcrowding. The police had to open a gate and move some fans around. At the end, there was a problem with the exit doors at the stairwell I was going down and I ended up with bruised ribs after getting crushed.

TBH, that was pretty typical at some of those old stadiums.

Edit: although looking at that again, i’m not sure it was the end i was at. Most fans were queueing neatly at the turnstiles.
