Former player: Curtis Jones

30M is still a good amount of money, particularly for someone we have not paid for to bring in.

Ultimately, I am not that fussed as to him staying or going or whether Barcola comes in or not. Once the season start, the tune that is played out on the pitch with the instruments available will be what matters most. The depth issue can be over emphasized and in the end the academy should be able to provide cover..

It seems to be that scenario. As you write, we better come through the season without any bad injury happening to one of our remaining main players in midfield. Otherwise, the season will be long…

Understandably so. He is about to enter his prime, and quite frankly, is on par with Macca and Grav (Dom is probably a bit ahead of him because of his ability to create danger out of nothing). Why shouldn’t he ask for a more prominent role in the team then?

Euros, not pounds…

Regarding Curtis, I really wonder what the academy can provide. Trey has shown that he can back up the big boys this season. McConnell maybe? But that’s a big gap left open then in terms of quality and experience, compared with Curtis…

I have been a fan of Curtis throughout and he deserved more starts last year, but it seems he was broken by Slot last year and it feels his heart isn’t in it anymore, sad but from appearances it seems the case.

Yeah, maybe that’s the answer. Very sad if that’s the case…

Definitely a bit of overestimation of Jones here. He’s been in the first team since 2020(?) when he announced himself with that goal against Everton and to a large extent in my opinion, fans have been living off that goal for all of his time here just waiting for the real Curtis Jones to pop up and take the world by storm. I mean we really, really, really want it to happen; local boy, came through the ranks, what could be better?

In reality he’s never really kicked on or nailed down a spot in the team and that is coming through under one of Liverpool’s greatest ever managers who has a proven track record of bringing youth through to become world class. He’s always been useful, nothing more or less than that and his track record in his time here bears that out. Anyone thinking he’s on par with the like of McAllister is having themselves on despite the little fellas worst season of his career.

Local boy, get that we want him to come good but he’s moving on and with good reason. Can he pull a McTominay and take Serie A by storm, absolutely, but he’s had his chance to do that here, didn’t nail it and to be completely honest, never really looked like he would but all the best to him.

This is what happens when a club pay Gravenberch 6 times more than Jones and refuse to pay Jones a similar amount, surely!

@wyld.at.hrt what is Jones’ overestimation?
I don’t see it!

Actually under Jurgen he would get a run of games and looking he might take the next step and et voila, an injury would appear and another setback.

Well to be fair, Federico fucking Chiesa earns more than him.

To get that wage you had to be Dutch or Mo under the previous coach

Our present wage structure seems bent.
I am very worried about where this might go.

I’m sad to see Jones go and worried that no replacement is in line. I have the feeling the new manager is going to have a torrid time this coming season.

I remember it being as injury to other key players giving him an opportunity then he getting injured as well. He never was a first choice midfielder.

You just have to read up a bit.

I said a few months ago that I expected Jones to absolutely kill it in a slower league and a team where he wasn’t required to press constantly - I still think this is exactly what he will do at Inter. I have a feeling it’s a transfer that everyone wants - he’ll get to play more minutes and play for trophies at a top club, Inter get a player who suits their football, Liverpool bank a full profit for PSR or whatever it’s called nowadays.

I didn’t want him to leave because the midfield lacked a pressing-resistant player who can keep possession and spread the ball around. However, with Iraola requiring his players to be pressing constantly and consistently, maybe he’ll be asking for a different profile of a player? That said, Mac Allister doesn’t look like a pressing monster, though almost every Liverpool player is coming off their worst ever season for the club.

You have a point, but it’s mainly the injuries which have held him back time and again. In terms of talent, he’s up there with the best imo. He’s now 25, and it will be interesting to see how it goes in terms of injuries for him. He might be over the worst now.

Is this true? No wonder he wants to leave then.

Jones is on about 50k a week (Gravenberch about 280k a week).
It’s clear that Jones would hold out for similar to Gravenberch.
Even so there’s been no indication that the club have made any offers to Jones despite him being in his final season of his present contract.

This is why I think we’re heading for problems. Both Gravenberch and Gakpo are on crazy money for what they are worth imo on the field. Equal and better players will surely prefer to leave than try and negotiate in this climate.

I don’t know if this is entirely accurate, but I agree that it creates unrest within the squad when some players earn disproportionately much and others far too little. This naturally leads to a feeling of insufficient appreciation. In my opinion, Gravenberch, at least, is absolutely overpaid. I can somewhat understand Curtis’s decision and wish him the best of luck. I hope things develop for him in his career as he envisions.

According to some rumours in January, he demanded 200k. IMO he deserves 120-160k per week.

On top of that, Bajcetic also receives around 30-50k, while Elliott actually earns more than him before he went on loan.

Take into account all of these stuffs, if I am Jones I would have been pissed off as well.
