It was a full-blooded attempt at character assassination, a branding of Rodgers as untrustful, a perpetrator of untruths, a spreader of falsehoods; divisive, misleading and unacceptable. âOne individualâs desire for self-preservation at the expense of others,â wrote Desmond.
Perhaps because of legal reasons the BBC has edited a lot of what was in their earlier article on Rodgersâ resignation. This bit isnât now in the BBCâs piece:
"The Irishman said: âWhen we brought Brendan back to Celtic two years ago, it was done with complete trust and belief in his ability to lead the club into a new era of sustained success. Unfortunately, his conduct and communication in recent months have not reflected that trust.â
Desmond claimed Rodgers was told in June the club were keen to offer him a new contract.
âYet in subsequent press conferences, Brendan implied that the club had made no commitment to offer him a contract,â he added. âThat was simply untrue.â
Desmond insisted that every player who was bought and sold during Rodgersâ tenure was âdone so with Brendanâs full knowledge, approval, and endorsementâ and claimed âhis later public statements about transfers and club operations came entirely out of the blueâ.
Desmond added: âHe was given final say over all football matters and was consistently backed in the recruitment process â including record investment in players he personally identified and approved.
âWhen his comments were made publicly, I sought to address them directly. Brendan and I met for over three hours at his home in Scotland to discuss the issue. Despite ample opportunity, he was unable to identify a single instance where the club had obstructed or failed to support him. The facts did not match his public narrative."

Speaking to Celtic fans at work the last days,
Most are backing Rodgers.
I point of that he spent millions in the summer, more then every other club in the league (maybe apart from the gers who are still a mess)
There response is, the net spend is low as Celtic sold a few good players plus he didnt get the players he wanted.
Who did he eant i ask, did they want to come to Celtic?
Could Celtic afford them and the wages?

Is that the 5th one theyâve appointed after letting the other 4 go or do they have 5 of them currently?
They previously had 2 official ones and I donât think either have been let go. So maybe they are counting the two principal owners who both want to stick in their beaks
