Tommy Smith testimonial - May 1977
A yellow card for a knock-out punch on Keegan. Itâs a little bit harsh maybe, as he was tackled from behind with two feets by the same Keegan just before.. ![]()
And Tommy Smithâs tackle before that, Jesus Christ⌠the ref blows a foul, heâs really harsh, that ref! ![]()
A bunch of soft boys in those days ![]()
"IF YOU WERENâT A FOOTBALLER, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUâD BE?
A disappointed joiner" ![]()
They sound like real responses from him. It would have been fun if they had asked him what he thinks his children would do when they grow up. I wonder if Match of the Day presenter and professional football coach would have been amongst them?
George and Mildred?
Seriously?
Probably still only three (or four) TV channels in those days. Still⌠no excuse really ![]()
They are great responses. Succinctly show drive and focus alongside a strong family focus and down-to-earthness that are excellent ingredients for all top players - be it the 1970s or 2020s.
He said the same thing about being a joiner on Stick to Football a few weeks back. It was where he thought his career was headed until he got his break at Celtic. He was an apprentice joiner at the time.
He also said Rising Damp, and his favourite actor being (Liverpool born) Leonard Rossiter, so not all bad.
not as good as Crouchysâ response to the same question.
A. A virgin ![]()
At least he didnât bite anyone!
I loved Suarez, and defended him to the hilt when he wore our jersey.
But yep, heâs a mad one.
Same as mate. But after we played against him I realised that everyone else was right all along! ![]()
Will always love his time with us though! What a player. A bit like Ramos in the sense that heâs a bit of a cunt sometimes, but youâd rather have him with you than against you.
