Former players and managers - general discussion (Part 2)

I don’t think this is real but this retelling of Bellamy’s first reaction to training with Charlie Adam is amazing…”you’re going to have to have to raise your game this season because this cunt is wank” :joy:

In textbook Bellamy fashion he wishes him well though

Reminds me of the the time me and Dave rewrote the article about his charity work, so it became a piece about how he’d fly to Africa each summer just to bully underprivileged children.

Am I the only Liverpool fan who genuinely doesn’t want Xabi Alonso to succeed now he is at Chelsea?
I’ve always loved Xabi, both as a player and as a person. He comes across as a genuinely decent bloke, and I’ve always had a lot of respect and affection for him.
But Chelsea? Of all clubs, Chelsea?
This is a man who played for Liverpool during the Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho era. He was right in the middle of that fierce rivalry, the Champions League battles, the bad blood between the two clubs and everything that came with it.
Surely, of all people, Xabi knows exactly what Chelsea meant to Liverpool fans during those years.
I know football’s a business, and he’s entitled to manage whoever he wants, but I can’t help how I feel about it, a big part of the affection I’ve always had for him disappears.
I don’t dislike the bloke, and I’ll always appreciate what he did for Liverpool, but I just can’t bring myself to wish him success at Chelsea. In fact, quite the opposite.
Maybe I’m being overly sentimental, but for me, some clubs you just don’t go to when you’ve been part of that Liverpool history.
Anyone else feel the same, or am I being a bit harsh

I still like Xabi but I won’t wish him success at Chelsea, just like I didn’t wish him success at Real. Luckily Chelsea are nearly as big a basket case for managers as Real, so most likely he won’t be there long.

The credit for winning the Bundesliga with Leverkusen will be gone if he ‘fails’ at Chelsea too - at least in terms of qualifiying to become a future Liverpool manager.

Such as Kloppo to ManUre. No freaking way!

I think it is a case of always wishing ex-players well, but when it comes to competition it’s us first.

If you think about it, we have had big receptions for the likes of Crouchie, Milner, Robbo, even Xabi himself when they have been back at Anfield, but we still want to win.

It’s a bit before my time, but Matt Busby was probably the biggest example of that. He was hugely popular when he played for us in the 1930s, and he remained popular with those that saw him play. I believe there was a lot of good will towards him as United manager, particularly in the 1950s when we were going nowhere, but when we were playing each other it was always Liverpool first.

Whilst I see your point, he was twice a candidate to take the Liverpool job and we cjose to go with other options. You can’t expect someone to just sit around waiting for us to give him the job can you?

And if someone were to sit out multiple seasons waiting for a specific job, can you honestly think he will still be up to the job having been sitting on his butt whilst the game evolves and moves on?

funny thing is though…

Charlie Adam (who was never good enough for us) scored more goals in the EPL the season before joining us than Bellamy did in the Championship the same year

Adams was also nominated for the PFA player of the year after scoring 13 goals and having 8 assists in 36 apperances.

surprised to read so many players didnt know who he was/didnt rate him/thought he was wank…
