Former players and managers - general discussion

This video just came up on my timeline

The most remarkable thing of a video of such a remarkable goal is the audacity of us attempting a title challenge with a strike partnership of Kuyt and Voronin

Was the right decision. Fabinho’s decline by that time was very noticable.

Yep. Which is why I wonder whether the likes of Mo and Virg will also be (relatively) unceremoniously moved on very quickly when the time is right.

I think the extended contract for Mo is partly to ensure a suitable transfer fee come end of this season if he doesn’t perform.

The difference was it was noticeable over half a season if not more with both him and Hendo.

Salah and VVD had a crap game and both are coming off excellent seasons. But I forgot that’s how we judge the players now.

Speaking of Parma centre backs, here’s a bit of a deep cut.

He ran past me when I was about 15 near Southport beach, I have to say I was lost for a moment.

No doubt he ran in slow motion.

James Milner: “There are lads I played with at the start of my career whose sons I’m now playing with or against: Justin Kluivert, I played with his dad at Newcastle; I played with Bobby Clark at Liverpool and played with his dad at Newcastle; Tommy Watson’s girlfriend is Ian Harte’s daughter.”

Appreciation post for Milner: 39 years old, 638 Premier League appearances, and still going strong

He’s played for a manager born several years before WW2. The goalie on his first team was born the year England won the World Cup. There are players on his current team who weren’t born until he had already accumulated several hundred PL appearances.

It’s an absurd career when you remember he was also one of the youngest players to ever play in the top flight

I heard he met Keir Hardie was always a jokey statement in Labour/Trade union circles for old blokes with stories.
