He is an Inter Milan fan and talk was he was going to go there but they couldn’t afford him and once he had chance to work with VVD he was LFC all the way.

By the time Van Dyke finishes with him all those juvenile trait will disappear. You only have to look at Konate when he plays alongside Virgil he knows he has to follow him in back line and also he made him a far better CH than when he arrived.

That’s pretty much what it boils down to and we must’ve accounted the risk factor in case it goes totally sideways, when you see the figures average players are going for, it’d take a monumental disaster or a Bajcetic type luck with injury for us to lose out. What is the worst case scenario here?

I’m not bothered about the transfer fee for Leoni. The upside that we get a long term CB makes for this gamble. Can’t deny it’s a big gamble though. But Leoni might just be someone who’s priced out of a move later in a years time.

Yeah, the Bajcetic or Ramsay scenario. But we didn’t pay that much for these two. Or Leoni could not live up to the expectations, and we could lose £26m as a result. But that’s Hughes’ and Edwards’ decision to make.

We didn’t then again Bajcetic hadn’t played at senior level yet and was signed at 16 if I recall right? I doubt the 16 year old Leoni would’ve cost anywhere near as much, and Ramsay came from a league where the football quality is closer to women’s game than serie a.
Even if Leoni doesn’t live up to expectations, we could still turn a profit…just look at Quansah/Carvalho etc.

I think it’s unlikely we’ve ponied up the full £26m so if he doesn’t work out the cost will probably be less. But as @The-AllMightyReds says, prices have gone up in recent years.
I do find it somewhat amusing that on the one hand Liverpool fans hail Edwards & Co for being excellent with club recruitment yet many still wring their hands over every deal.
