I think that is possible, and often times good ideas can remain after the man who laid them down has moved on, but this was also a real transition season. None of the big players from the Sarri era are there anymore and while Im sure Spaletti wasnt responsible for finding them i would be difficult to credit the older managers too much for having such impressive performances from what is largely a new group of players.

Maybe it will be Michael Beale, I do think if Alonso can turn Levekusen around and get them qualifying for CL I think he might stand a good chance.

He’s got the credentials for sure, taking Villarreal to a UCL semi was far beyond anything they’ve ever achieved before…the back to back Europa League wins, winning everything there is to win in France (which isn’t as credible as taking Villarreal to a UCL semi) was it Juve and Bayern they beat over 2 legs?
But what Villa fans probably remember him for was the negative style, very defensive football his Arsenal side often played with. Think they had something like a 22 game unbeaten run which ultimately counted for nothing as Arsenal still finished outside the CL and ended up getting battered in the EL final.
