Aren’t they just pretentious in general around there? ![]()
Stray Aliens? Pretension down here is dress thongs (flip-flops) and a collared singlet.
Emm! The collared singlet is the give away, no? ![]()
I was (kind of) joking but no the ‘collared singlet’ is a real thing and of course its got an Australian name ‘colsi’. Here is a picture of a former Australian Prime Minister dressed in the aforementioned ‘colsi’, FFS!
Do you like your garden to be neat/manicured, or a bit wild?
I was half right, It is from the citrus family too.
A bit wild, like myself.
This is a point of difference between the Missus and me.
What about you Ifti?
Same here my friend. My favorites are those growing out of the walls.
…like those audacious vines, reaching out for the Sun in joyous longing for life.
Facing a fearsome foe in the garden.
Possums! ![]()
How are they generally addressed ? i assume they are a pest ?
Are they predatory, venomous, poisonous, a road hazard, or breed like buggery? I lose track of how Australian flora and fauna is designed to cause the end of civilisation.
They love to eat green shoots and have a habit of stripping trees and shrubs of new foliage. No idea how to stop them was hoping an Aussie like @JU97ICE might have some tips.
Checked this on Google as well. Removing them seems to be pretty difficult in Australia as the government forbids you to relocate more than. 150 yards.
You might need to hire professionals for this. Also does seem like they like to get on the roofs and make their homes there. That could get some structural damage in too.
Damn straya , insisting on making things more complicated for themselves.
Check with aussielad and the other Aussies in here. They have probably faced this before.
I can’t speak too much about Possums up here in SE Qld. We have a couple of ringtails that walk along our fenceline occasionally but its quite rare because there are lots of neighbours with dogs and it so happens to be that all our fruit trees for instance are in very close proximity to the neighbours with dogs. But also most plants that are capable of surviving in the subtropics are not the tender greens that possums really enjoy.
Growing up on a 27 acres in Tassie there were plenty of brushtails and it was practically every night it would be the dog barking only slightly matching the possum shreaks. For that, we pretty much did everything in our power to protect young plants and trees when they were young then try to minimise damage when they were mature and hope the dogs took as many possums as possible …we got a lot of possum carcass fertiliser thanks to our dogs. I can say that I dont recall our rose garden really thriving in Tassie though even the climate was good for it.
a cage and bait.
when i renovated the house they got in the roof, i had to remove a few , somewhere around the …ahem…150m mark…
funny story, but we went camping once and id packed the ute, i set the tent up, got the area set up and dragged out the campchairs, when i opened one up i nearly shit my kecks as a bushy bolted off…
is it a ring tail or a bushy?
bushys are tough as all get out and will survive a nuclear fallout
get a possum cage and bait it with an apple and peanut butter.
I haven’t actually seen them as they are nocturnal, but the trail of destruction and reports from neighbours are clear.
I have no idea how I’d handle a trapped possum, they’re pretty aggressive at the best of times.
Who you gonna call? Possum Busters!
very simple.
bait, cage, open door at end destination. they bolt, they wont turn.
i have been told…that if you release them past a body of water and a main road they wont return…
bushys are about 5 times the size of a ringtail… i wouldnt remove a ringtail, they wont create the level of damage…
they are very agressive though in the cage…i had one that smashed his own face in trying to ram his way out…felt really bad for him, but yeah he was a feisty bugger, (dont stress, he would have survived his injuries easily…)
