Can’t the apple be drugged with a sleeping medication or something? It will be easier to transport them and probably the possum will do less harm to itself ?
Probably need a vet to sign off on that medication
Which state are you in? Here in NSW there are very strict rules about handling possums. You’re not even allowed to trap them apparently, unless you have a licence.
I can only call Possum Busters if they are actually in my house, otherwise they are protected. I know anecdotally, that people do take their own measures, but, as a non-citizen I’m wary of doing anything illegal.
In the meantime I’ve protected a couple of their favourites (they love wisteria shoots for example) with wire mesh and will continue the war.
Motion detecting Sprinkler systems with light might work. If the possum isn’t nesting in the roof.
And also apparently crushed garlic.
It could be useful for dispursing pesticides and fertilizers as well , if you have enough sprinkler system to cover your entire property.
Same was claimed for putting off raccoons digging up the backyard (we have at least a couple of those buggers bigger than an English Bulldog). However, people using such system said that it only worked for a short time, and the raccoons learned to adapt.
