The Gretsch. What a sound, not easy to play but if you want a rockabilly, Setzer, Scotty Moore sound you can’t go wrong.
No not at all you are most welcome!!! I was joking. More the merrier. Someday we’ll get on to playing, mostly its been about collecting toys.
You at least have 3 guitars Id fawn over, The Takamine (nearly bought a lawsuit) The new 335 (had an Ibanez version but poor construction) and the Gretsch.
One criticism of the 335 style is they can appear a little uncomfortable at first, they get right under your arm? But so sweet in sound.
G&L Fallout Tribute. A relatively cheap guitar, 425Euro. I was shocked at how good it played right out of the box. The bridge P90 is the star of the show. Build quality is easily as good as a mexican fender which would be more expensive.
I know you were joking Bro, I have enjoyed reading all the posts on this thread lately especially with the football stuff becoming so depressing…need something to cheer us up.
I used to have a G&L Tribute Asat, surprisingly good version of a Tele, sounded almost more Tele than a Tele
Okay now we are reaching the tail end of what I own. This is a Harley Benton TE-90FLT in Green blast. This guitar was less than 200 Euros. It had a couple of very minor cosmetic blemishes but it sounds great. Capable of single coils sounds, twangy for country and yet ballsy for blues too. Slim fast neck, very easy guitar to play. Graphtec nut, decent bridge, fretboard and frets were perfect on a cheap guitar.
I’d never owned a G&L before, I’m delighted at how it plays and sounds. It has a fatter neck than my mexican tele and a glossy fretboard. I would have said that both would have put me off but in the hands it feels very comfortable.
Another Harley Benton, this is a SC-550 in Desert Flame burst. I think i paid 250Euro for this one. It was bought as an experiment to see if the hype about these cheap guitars was true. I have to say it plays like dream and sounds great. Obviously not on par with a Gibson but easily as good as an Epiphone in my opinion.
Yeah the 335 can feel a bit bulky under the right arm in particular. It feels bigger when you come from playing a Tele or the PRS. It suits a particular style I suppose but in terms of a warm sound it’s hard to beat.
I have been looking closely at the G&L’s as many will say that they are equal if not better than an equivalent Fender.
But a Fender is easier to sell if ever the need arises.
Very true. G&L wont “hold” their value at all it seems, the brand appeal of a Fender is more desirable I suppose. In terms of build quality there is no difference that I can see, if i was to be picky I would say the control knobs on the G&L feel a bit lighter and a small bit more flimsy. It was 200E cheaper having said that.
Only 1 pick up but he’s upgraded a few bits
The trick with these type of brands is to buy them used. Drop in value happens basically the moment someone purchases it, after that they don’t go down much anymore and are already dirt cheap in comparison.
Yeah. Not too many on the market at the moment sadly.
I’m toying with learning guitar.
Is it better to learn with an acoustic or electric or electro-acoustic guitar?
If I was going to buy a Les Paul, it would defo be a gold top of some sort with P90’s. Beautiful guitar.
To be honest I dont think it makes a huge difference. Acoustic will strength your fingers quicker as the strings are thicker but in all honesty I’d go with whatever you find in the music you like to listen to.
Ultimately you want to be playing those songs and playing music is what its about.
Stunning guitar to both look at and listen to. I must admit there’s a certain quality I do like from P90’s. So much so that I’ve been extensively looking at guitars with them fitted.
I found Electric guitar is easier to learn with.
