Guitars, Guitars and more toys that go with Guitars

I can well believe it.

I’ve just had a shivering thought at which I am highly embarrassed about.

I bought my first guitar in 1990. That’s 30 years back and I’ve not given it anywhere near the time needed to get competent in that period.

That’s just awful by me.

Same!

I got a guitar at Xmas in 1990 and the GNR lies tab book. I opened the book and thought it would be easy. The notes looked like a 1000 ants going across the page. So after a while I gave up.

Then my ex girlfriend bought me one in 2004 and again, it was just too hard for me so gave up about a month later and sold it.

Then last April out of nothing else to do thanks to Lockdown I gave it one more shot an borrowed a guitar. This time thanks to youtube at the start I actually started playing and understanding the thing.

If only I hadnt given up in 1990 but I will say credit to those who have learnt without YouTube because theres no way Id be where I am now without it.

Did something strange last night.
Played standing up for the first time.
Bizarrely my barre chords were fantastic standing up. Power and other chords weren’t bad either.
Next I have to look in a mirror when I next play to notice hand movements.

Love this…but out of my price range at £1200.

Ebayer received the Charvel today and said he’s fallen in love with it. He cant wait to put 9s on and set it all up to his liking.

He felt everything I didn’t about it so I know I made right decision.

At the moment that new Cort leads the way but I’d get it in Black. It’s not out until mid March.

Congrats on the sale. Hope you got a price somewhere near where you were with it.

Anyway, you’re still set on one of those fusion style guitars?

I got £475 so not too bad. Plus it was on a £1 seller promo so worked out well.
I sent it by 24 Parcel Force for £12 which was OK as well. I took a chance on that because they wanted me to insure it for the full amount of £475 so when I said yes it took postage to £40 so I thought fuck that. So left it off. I wrapped case in bubble wrap and swamped it in Fragile tape and it done the trick.

Still working out whether to get the Ibanez as I could pay £500 upfont and then rest interest free over 18 months at £40ish. Ill have to ask the boss first!
If a no go then I really like that Cort as well.

Are you not at risk of falling into the same trap here? They will be lighter guitars (maybe, depending on that body material) but also have those really fast necks that you might not like. I remember you saying the Charvel neck was like a timber block.

I know I took a chance on the Tele but had a decent idea what to expect with the neck so it wasn’t a huge shock to the system.

i got used to the fret in the end its just that the guitar was so heavy and the constant mucking about with the tuners done my head in.

Im not going to knee jerk into this one but I do look the like of the Cort and Ibanez.

So I rang PMT to ask when the Ibanez is expected as i want to test drive it. June. FFS.

The wife suggested if I test it, like it, then put down a £500 payment a pay rest of in interest free payments over 9-12 months which is a good idea.

And in the meantime the living room needs decorating and we need a new table for … £500.

That’s how it works in my house.
I really want to go skiing next year, pending Covid of course and I have been given approval to look provided that certain standards are met with resort and hotels etc. All good, happy with that until the time bomb of a full redecoration of the extension we have on the house so that she can open a new business in there. Guess who’s paying for that!

I’d certainly recommend try before you buy and I’d even be willing to bet that you’d go in with every intention of buying the Cort but leave with something else entirely. That’s what happened to me and what a great day it was. I need to try a Strat next. (Stop it. Put that idea to bed for a while)

We decorated the entire house late last year so she’s content…for now.

Just amazed they have a video of it saying they are new for 2021 and by time its out 2021 will be half over!
They only put the video up the other day so its a bit pointless.
I guess they open again on April 12th so ill go down there and see if they have the Ibanez to test.

The Cort is released around mid-march.

The list never shrinks. It’ll be the garden or something.

I’ve now been asked to fire up the strimmer tomorrow so I can see raised beds being added to the list at some point in the next month or so.

next purchase for me will be a hard case and a pedal power supply. fuck it, I’ll order it today so I can get that pedal board built. I’m fed up of pulling it all out connecting everything together. I’m after simplicity.

So trying to learn a few Green Day tracks…they are fucking fast.

Good shout on them. I need to get into some Foo Fighters while I’m thinking about it.

I’ve slacked of late. Too much work again but I was so close to pulling the plug on a new pedal again yesterday. Not one I really need but probably on the list long term. Must sort that power supply first though.

Fuck the footy.

So decided I’m not gonna spend £1300 on this. It’s nice but crazy price.

So I’m down to three. What you lads reckon…3 different guitars…

Never seen me with the below…but I’ve fallen in love with it. Any others around same price I should consider? Only concern is that can it sound heavy enough?

This was my choice a few weeks ago. But now not so sure. Maybe cos I already have a Black Guitar. It’s decent and I haven’t discounted it yet.

Totally in your face. But has a good spec and you get a lot of guitar for your money.

If you can get any 1000 model of ESP’s LTD sub-brand, go for it! They are outstanding, especially the older models (all of them are made in Korea, their craftsmanship is excellent).

I’ve found my dream guitar (LTD EC-1000 Deluxe in black finish) at a reasonable price but it’s in Croatia and nowhere near Zagreb, so I currently don’t have anyone who would be able to bring it over to Belgrade. So, fuck corona again, I can only hope it won’t get sold for quite a while.

The Fender for me but if you have a budget that big I’d be looking at everything that falls in that price range from them.

I’d be really nervous of bombing that amount without trying it though. The Ibanez will be nice but again you need to try those necks first I feel.

You could also look at Schecter, Suhr, and PRS (sure there are others) in that price range
