Thank you, I think I had better try one then to be sure. Only time I have seen them in use are with lots of o/d and come to think of it rarely ever clean. Thats all helpful…Im in doubt now.
Do you know what, Im having a Jazzmaster, thats what I really wanted. Strange tho for you to criticise the trem; some say that moving plate is the best Fender design.
Nor me, yes that Strat even has uprated electronics, I think you can buy the copy complete scatch plate and PUPs to drop straight in with a simple solder on the earth to the trem.
Amazing how many Teles have actually been played on tracks people think were other guitars; most of Led Zeppelin’s studio albums were done on Teles.
Before sinking 1.5k on one, I’d try and have an extended road test with one and live with it for a bit.
I think my problem with it that there is so much that can go wrong with it, so much that can be knocked out of alignment, so many little screws that can unscrew themselves and balls up the intonation or create little buzzes and resonances.
I think it’s the wrong guitar for me, because it needs someone who is a lot more reverential towards their instrument than me. I’m not that good at playing it, and I’m not that committed to properly looking after it. I should have stuck with the plank of wood.
I don’t have a lot of experience with Trems. It might be that this is the best one, and it’s just less shit than the others. It’s supposed to hold its tuning (which is obviously going to be affected by how bedding in the strings are) and intonation, but I’ve found it does neither.
My first electric guitar was a heavily modded Tokai I bought off a lad at college for about £100. It had a Floyd Rose bridge which I think is was the best Trem I’ve ever had. My mates dad used to joke that the bridge was worth more that the rest of the guitar put together.
I sold it for about what I paid to the local guitar shop as part ex for my Mexican Tele, and the next week I saw they’d ripped the bridge out, thrown away the rest of the guitar and were selling the bridge on its own for twice what they’d bought it off me for.
If there is an expiry time against bidding on the item…
most if not all will wait until the final minutes knowing full well you haven’t sold it for the asking price… That is when an offer/s will come in me thinks!
Yeah. Patience. I’ve had a couple of nibbles on the ibanez but nothing solid yet.
Had a stark realisation over the last few days at how far I gave to go. I want to get into a position where I can play the chord changes. With that came the realisation that i need to get a better grapple of chord structure etc. It feels like being faced with having to read the Encyclopedia Britannica and digest every word of it.
And my flying pinky finger is pissing me off. It looks utterly stupid.
I’m in same boat.
I really feel from 0-7 months I really done well. Months 8-10 I’ve hit a bump in the road and feel like I haven’t gone anywhere.
My pinky is also shit and weak.
Yeah. I’m still progressing and happy with that but I guess when I now see some of the little things that have made my guitar heroes as good as they are and then research that I’m like “shit I’ve got some work ahead of me”. But then it was great to understand that even the most complex solos are often linked to the songs chords rather than just pouring notes out over the scale / key of the song even in parts where you think it’s a kind of transition moment. So a new thing for me will be really focussing on the chord progression of the solo first rather than understanding the key and the notes. Could be a penny drop moment.
My pinky is like an out of control flag pole in the wind. Starts off with good intention, but says “fuck that” and stands up like some stupid antenna before hitting the fret I’m after. In reality, I need to work on my hand position as well.
My biggest fear is trying to do this without some real direction. But we carry on and it is fun when you take a step forward.
My pinky didnt come in until much later, I think the earlier muscles in the hand spread need to develop to give it foundation. But I rarely use it for what I play. Its best use is that whole step embellishment to power chords.
I’m certainly going to keep plugging away at it as I often find using it more comfortable. Not sure how much of the flying pinky thing (its appears really weird in my case) is down to the fact I smashed my hand up playing rugby many moons ago. They put a plate in there apparently. But the comfort thing is certainly related to it.
For sure, the challenge, but I dont remember working on it, just giving up then finding it worked later, if you know what I mean, then its like meh, oh I can do that, but when or why.
Just learnt GNRs used to love her.
Only 3 chords (D,A,G) but great for practicing rhythm and and the down, down, up, up, down pattern (old faithful as it’s known).
My issue seems to be this…apparently the pinky and ring finger share the same tendon…but my ring finger seems to use 95% of that muscle leaving 5% for my pinky.
I worked on this last night. Far too late again as I seem to be addicted to just fiddling with the Tele. Some success too as I can see the first indications that my little finger will eventually comply. So the exercises are working.
I’m finding hand position helps a lot and I’m concentrating on getting my hand squarer and thumb placement correct. That has also lead to some improvement in that Final Countdown triplet sequence.
The pinky is the hardest finger to train. My tutor has been playing 25 years and even now he says his pinky will be the finger that causes an issue when learning a solo.
