Guitars, Guitars and more toys that go with Guitars

I get major guitar face especially when playing the more challenging passages of a solo

They call it “sniffing the shit” like if you had a lump of shit on the headstock.

Nice little purchase.
Fantastic Hamer guitar with Firebird pick ups. So versatile.
Its not as bright as the picture is showing.
Wasnt gonna buy it but i was lucky enough to be able to play this for a few hours before i bought it as my guitar tutor was selling it (so also got a bit off the price).
This is based on the 59 Les Paul and was made in either 1997 or 98.
The fretboard is a little bit shorter as well which helps me with soloing.

Nice. Some Yamaha vibes going on there but wouldn’t surprise me if Hamer were first.

Just stuck my 60w Orange Amp on eBay - bought it but never used it. Far too loud for what I need and far to heavy - id get a hernia moving that from upstairs to car haha.

Looking to get a decent Valve amp instead.

What valve amp have you got your eyes on?

My favourites are Diezel, ENGL, Hughes & Kettner.

Ze Germans certainly know how to construct an arse-kicking metal tube amp! :metal:t3:

Thanks ill check them out.
I like the Marshall 40w Duel one. Would have to be 2nd hand as £680+ new

Gonna be loud! will need a power soak with it to get the best tube tones while not blowing your windows (and your eardrums) out.

Do you mean the DSL 40? Are you playing in a band or just practicing at home? If it’s the latter you have absolutely no need for such high wattage valve amps and like koptician said will only have loudness issues. Why not try much lower watt valve amps, there are excellent ones out there?

We do reherse every few weeks but not played anywhere yet

Would you recommend some of them to me? It’s quite difficult to find low wattage valve amps in my parts, even in the second hand market, they are sold literally as soon as they are listed. There are tons of EVHs, Peaveys, Marshalls etc. but all of them are in tje 50W-120W range. I was going for a Blackstar HT-5R Mk. II but a friend is talking me into buying Peavey 6505 MH or some Orange heads that, like this one, have a switch to reduce the wattage from 15W to 1W or even 0.5W (obviously, with a 1x12 cabinet).

Also, has anyone here tried South Korean-made Epiphone guitars, specifically their Explorer Gothic model? I mean, it’s black, it’s Explorer, it’s pointy, it’s made in South Korea and I’m a bargain bin, Wish meme version of James Hetfield, so everything adds up. I’m just interested to hear about their build quality - if it’s as strong as Korean-made LTDs and Schecters, then it’s a no-brainer for me.

Yeah great shout. That overall package (including price) is hard to compete with

They were a lot more 10yrs ago, nearly £500. Its the wattage which is important for home, ive Roland JC40 can barely run it past 2-3, Orange AD30 can get to about 3, but after that they’re both looking to knock the windows out. The other one I recall but probably more expensive, for home, is the Orange Micro Terror?

I’ve honestly struggled with this side. To get a great sound you need to open an amp up. That fucks off the Missus and the whole neighbourhood. So I end up playing with pidlly volume that sounds shite.

Not sure how these YouTubers, instagramers do it to be honest.

Again, plenty of low watt choices that are excellent for home use/recording. Even many classic (studio) recordings were cut with really small amps/combos cranked, even if they had their wall of amps on stage.
Or Attenenuators, load boxes. Or alternatively their youtube money did go to some soundproofing. And of course you can do a lot in (post) production, plenty of these youtube people also use digital modelling, digital IR/cab simulation etc.

I was trawling through various ads for used amps and this is what I’ve found so far:

EVH 5150 III LBX Stealth
EVH 5150III LBXII
Peavey 6506 MH
Peavey Classic 20 MH

Some are more expensive than the others but I would like to hear people’s opinions on these four.

Ended up buying the Marshall DSL 40w on eBay for £349 delivered.
I sold my Orange Amp for £220 on eBay and the bloke drove from Gloucester to Romford to pick it up!
Credit to him - he said he would be here on the Sat morning at 8.30am and he was bang on time!

Don’t know the difference between those two but I’d plonk for one of those.

I actually used to own the 20 watt Peavey 6505 MH and sold it when I was moving. It was okay but didn’t grab my ears like I thought it would.
