I definitely feel that since i caught covid xmas 21 its slowed my progress down. I have days where i forget things, have no taste and smell. Its like i have brain fog.
I think that’s the reason somedays i look at learning a song and just cannot work it out yet other days im fine.
So my leaving the guitar alone lasted about 12 hours. I picked it up Friday afternoon and learnt the intro and verse of Wheels by Foo Fighters.
Its so frustrating that one day i struggle to play a note correctly and the next day its a lot better. Still takes me a while to get it down but on a good day i eventually get there.
It has to be the effects of covid because i was flying in the 18 months previous.
Pick two and try changing between them. For example, G major and C minor. After you nail it down, then you try, for example, G major and C major. After that, try G major and D major. That’s how I did it anyway. You can then add some variety by picking seventh chords or suspended chords, adding three and then four chords to your practice progression.
I have some to recommend, mate, as soon as I nail down alternate picking, economy picking, sweep picking, finger picking, air picking and nose picking. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed that we’re holding you back and that you should be the one posting recommendations, not the other way around!
is there a website out there that can advise how much your guitar is worth? Got a lovely Fender player plus HSS that im just not playing as i love my moded Harley Benton Les Paul and Hamer guitars.
There are a few but they all require a subscription, which in my opinion isn’t worth it. The closest I got when it comes to free websites is Reverb.com. You can find a lot of guitar models there with the plotted sales value curve of verified purchases via the website itself (if I’m not mistaken).
Wait, which Hamer do you own? I can’t recall you mentioning it here but my memory is iffy.
@Nikola
Its a 1998 Hamer Studio. Lovely guitar and comes with the Hamer case as well. Paid £850 for it from my guitar tutor in May but have seen them go for over £1k of late
Even though I don’t doubt its quality in the slightest, Cantrell’s signature equipment is extremely expensive. His Friedman signature amp is about 4000 USD (though it sounds amazing, about the best sound I’ve heard from an amp, without any pedals), while his Gibson LP Custom signature was about 6000 USD when it was released. I think the first batch actually got sold out very quickly but I got the impression that a lot of those guitars were purchased by scalpers because you could soon see the ads where these guitars were sold at about 10000 USD.
Well being the fussy fucker that I am I sent back the Epiphone yesterday.
I really liked it and it was lovely to play but at the end of the day I didn’t really need it as I have the modded Harley Benton with Slash AFD pick ups, locking tuners and better nut.
I’ve decided to stop buying guitars (honest!) until I have enough to buy a Custom Les Paul in Ebony - I’ve just got a £699 refund so that’s going straight into the pot!
I will say I’ve dealt with 2 music shops in the last fortnight. I ordered a ESP LTD EC-1000 from Gear4Guitar and didn’t like how it felt so send it back and got a refund a day later with no issues.
The JC came from RichTone Music which was delivered last Tuesday and had it over the weekend. For some reason even though undecided I changed the strings. When I did decide to send it back I dropped them an email advising them of this as I was worried it would void the 14 day money back promise.
They replied saying as long as guitar tuned up in standard tuning that would be no problem.
I booked a slot with UPS yesterday at 10.30am, they turned up at 11.40am, the Guitar was delivered today at 9.40am and my refund was issued at 11.05am today.
Two really decent online guitar shops that I would recommend. They only difference between the 2 is that Gear4Music do free delivery and for return take £6.99 payment off you for shipping and send you the labels - and that’s a decent price for next day delivery.
RichTone - Charge £6.99 delivery and for return you have to have to original packaging (if poss) and you have to pay for that yourself which for next day was £18 as it was a Guitar in a case, in a box that was in another bigger box.
Since their service is so good, why don’t you try Schecter Solo-II models if they have them? I’m a huge fan of EC-1000 but I feel that the neck on Solo-II series models suits me better. My friend-in-a-band (three bands, actually) says that their necks are very similar to Gibson SG models, though I’ve never played a Gibson.
They might be right up your alley since their specifications are similar (24-fret models are more often than those with 22 frets, they are single cut, set-neck with dual humbuckers, mostly with TonePros bridge and brand-name locking tuners).
OK people…so Ive been looking into the Gibson Les Paul 60s in Bourbon Burst that were made from 2019 when they listened to all the complaints, went back to what people loved and these have been getting rave reviews since. See video below…
Last night I had my guitar lesson and was telling my tutor that I was looking into these and he said that said he felt I maybe disappointed in a Les Paul as he thinks it would sound no better than my Harley Benton SC-550 II (below) in which I took the original Tesla pick ups out and had the Slash AFD pick ups put in.
The 60s Les Paul comes with Burstbucker 61T in the bridge and Burstbucker 61R in the neck.
So what do those who have played a Gibson Les Paul think? Would I be a bit disappointed?
I want to try one but typically the shop 5 minutes away doesn’t have any - They only have the 50s which I will try but know I wont like the fatter neck on but does slightly different pick up called Burstbucker 1 & 2.
