Don’t, it just makes it worse…
£240 great price. Pull the trigger.
There are some great budget guitars out now - Jet are getting rave reviews.
Put my tele up for sale, and I’ll see if I go for the Guild or not. It’s not getting enough play time, as the neck isn’t quite for me. Looks like I prefer the Gibson neck profiles (or similar). I still miss my Epi Les Paul.
Cross fingers I get a buyer.
I’ve been offered a Gordon Smith GS-1 as a trade for my Tele, it’s at least 15 years old, probably more looking at it. Modified bridge which I understand is not unexpected with these.
It’s perked my interest a bit to be fair. Les Paul junior / Melody Maker vibes.
Thinking it over.
Anyone know much about Tokai’s?
Particularly what makes some more valuable than others. The price on the second hand market seems to jump all over the place and I’m having trouble figuring out why.
I know they are highly regarded but I found the same when l was thinking of getting one - the prices were all over the place from cheap to silly expensive so I left it.
Just sold my Hamer for £900 - Just down to the one guitar now - The Les Paul Standard.
Was thinking of getting a Tele but not sure they excite me enough or if I need one.
Thats what im finding. All over the shop and no idea why.
Tele’s are great but i dont like the necks. Proving to a deal breaker for me with them.
I asked my mate, who knows loads about guitars and has been playing for 50+ years, and he replied:
“The price differential will be due to the place of manufacture. Some Tokais are made in Japan, others in " far Eastern " factories, I am not sure where these would be but typically Indonesia and China.
The Japanese guitars are the better quality”
You have to be careful with them because I found out that a lot of people who sell them in my parts of the world deliberately don’t mention their country of origin unless it’s Japan - those made in Japan are the real deal and if you can get your hands on one, you’re in for a treat. Otherwise, stay away.
I’m pretty sure that Chinese and Indonesian guitars will be of awesome quality in, say, 10-20 years but that’s not the case with guitars that were made there up until 2020 or so. I’d love to own a Japanese made guitar one day (ESP, obviously) but my playing level doesn’t warrant such a good guitar even remotely. That didn’t stop me from getting South Korean-made guitars, though, which are outstanding for their price.
Edit: why Tokai specifically if I may ask?
Ive been thinking about selling my tele, as i’m struggling with the neck. Probably an excuse more than anything but it is what it is. Not inspired shall we say.
Just looking on facebook and a 2019 Japanese tokai les paul was there for swaps. Looked good. So i started looking at what the value was to gauge how it would sit against the value of my tele. Quickly came unstuck.
Best guitar for 80s sounding rock (with no floating trem).
Thanks

First one is more my thing to be honest but cant stretch to that budget at the moment.
We’ll see. I’m not in a huge rush to be honest.
Just had some fucker try and scam me with the sale of my tele. I suspected they were dodgy given their facebook profile was not right. The conversation between us also raised suspicions.
They wanted to pay via Paypal which is fine, until i get an email stating im to send them £200 as a guarantee. Of course no cash in my paypal account and the email supposedly from paypal came with a gmail address.
They were quickly told to fuck off. That saga also came with another dodgy inquiry. They’ve been ignored.
Are you using Facebook Marketplace to advertise it, by the way?
Yeah its in various guitar sale groups.
Thankfully these assholes are easily spotted but its a proper pain.
Isn’t there another website that you could use, one that is more reliable, perhaps with a grading/reputation system?
Not that I know of to be honest, other than Reverb. Most people seem to look and list on Facebook as far as I know.
Bit frustrating that its proving tough to move on.
