Happy St. George's Day!

We tend to focus far more on things and people that were distinctly Welsh as opposed to things that simply had a shared Brittonic heritage. It’s not exactly clear when that distinction first started occurring, but very unlikely to have been present at her time. So we dont really revere her very much, and certainly don’t claim her.

I dot find the reverence of her in England to be interesting though given my earlier point that you cannot start the English story any earlier than the Anglo Saxon migrations, something that occurred hundred of years after her time. Simply put, she is not one them either. From what I’ve read this is a fairly recent perspective, mostly based on a form of pro-Victoria propaganda, reimagining Victoria as this warrior queen reborn.

St Patrick’s day is the best. :grinning:

Just out of interest how does a prostestant country end up with a saint?

By stealing it from someone else.

The Anglican Church has always been a kind of middle ground between Lutheranism and Catholicism.

So midway between rampant ant-semitism and ignoring child rape. Not somewhere I’d like to stand.

I’m actually none of those, apart from hair loss, due to advancing years.
