Harvey ELLIOTT: 2021/22

Thought he was alright. Didn’t have a big influence on the game but he wasn’t bad either. Couple of nice touches and got caught a couple of times, but then it was Fabinho who gave it away for the chance Inter hit the bar and Thiago couldn’t keep it for the life of him for half of the second half.

It was a tough game. He’s only 18, his limitations are going to be more evident in games like this than ones in which we have all the ball. That’s fine, no need to go overboard calling it a ‘disaster’ or whatever, because it clearly wasn’t.

I watched the first half this morning whilst reading the in game thread, some of the stuff you lot come out with is absolutely bizarre tbh. It was a good quality game against a good opponent and even our lesser players didn’t have bad games. I saw a lot of criticism for Robertson too, who despite misplacing a few passes was also running around like a man possessed giving them no time on the ball (his set pieces were excellent too).

Any time the other team touches the ball the in-match thread melts down in anger at our players.

Reminds me why I avoid match threads like the plague!

Any time an opposing player has any physical contact with our player and there is no fk, there is a meltdown.

I thought the referee last night was superb but as usual he was subject to all kinds of abuse from the usual posters. Don’t think there was a yellow given and the referee at one stage was laughing at the antics of Vidal. He wasn’t buying their playacting at all.

I thought the ref started poorly but got better as the game went on.

Next question is…

How many European games Inter played since that time?

pretty bold for Jurgen to start him in this game, against a pretty seasoned team like Inter. Their left side of Perisic/Dzeko/Bastoni is a very strong setup with lots of physical power to contend with, and teams like to try and exploit the space behind Trent when he moves forward.

the only real joy that they got was a Perisic cross to Lautaro streaking into the box that he couldn’t get onto the end of, at that point it was still 0-0 and the match thread exploded into all sorts of panic. there were a few more crosses pinged across from that side, but for the most part Konate was on his game and did an admirable job protecting the space behind. Allowed Harvey to enjoy the space out wide.

Thought he did well for a CL debut in the San Siro. I’d have shat my shorts.

Also Calhanoglu, since he plays either as the left sided CM or has the most freedom to pop up as the #10. He was basically on paper and in terms of style, Eriksen’s replacement (even if it took Eriksen a good while to even become a starter at Inter). Hope we defend/bully that side better in the return leg.

thought he had a pretty quiet game. Perisic is the one who scares me on that side. Strong dribbler with lots of pace and a pretty decent left foot. exploits space well.

Couldn’t agree more. I rarely go in them. Too many Chimps out!

Also why it would have been nice to get the chat working and then it could all drift off into the ether and never be seen again :joy:

You left out the most important part of my quote ….”The combination of him and Trent was a disaster on that side, totally dominated.“

With not a single decent chance or shot on target created through it…

are you taking the piss??

go to 7:15 on this highlight. a few inches from 1-0.

Can you imagine that performance against a team like city, Bayern, psg? GBH charges without a doubt. The changes (3 sub change) made a huge difference in the game, and balanced that side significantly. It’s not a permanent knock against a Harvey + Trent combo, it’s a knock on the performance in this particular game, so I guess I should have started the conversation in the post match thread and not here.

Did you mean 7.15? A cross towards Martinez that he doesn’t get to? He doesn’t even get the cross let alone control it/hit it accurately first time and then beat Alisson. Not sure I describe it same as you. But ok lets say it is that close to a shot on target. Inter are a really really good side, playing at home in the Champions League. The left side of their attack is their strongest side. One cross that was close to being met and could generously be considered inches away from a certain goal is the closest it came to a goal. Despite it being “a disaster on that side, totally dominated.”!

I don’t know whether you just aren’t rating Inter high enough or completely overrating what they achieved in that game? Maybe one of the top teams out there for attacking down that side, and not far behind the 3 you’ve mentioned. There’s a hell of a long way to go from “not a single shot on target” to “GBH charges”!

Ok, fair enough, if it’s shot not on target it’s attempted GBH, on target would have been GBH.

I would really love to see him more central at some stage of his career, preferably sooner. I feel his first touch is much better than the current version of Bobby.

Tbf, the right hand side of our team was defensively under the cosh last night. They got in behind on numerous occasions and with better decision making we could have been punished more harshly. Harvey and Trent had a tough time of it and that was the end of it, nothing worse.

If you were to listen to the commentary team though, fuck me… some of those cunts really have it in for Trent. It’s fucking scandalous at times.

That’s why you centre defenders and Fabinho as a number 6 is suppose to come across and act as a third defender evidently he didn’t have a good game eithier.

Probably explains why it changed when Hendo came on.

I think Inter Milan’s stats for the season show they tend to favour attacking down their left, so i’m not surprised.
