That is all ifs and buts, he wanted more game time and although he loves the club he didn’t want to or feel the opportunity to fight for a place in the team.
He’s had more than enough chances over the years in different teams, under two different coaches and in a few positions. Not everyone can get the same amout of opportunities. A lot of it is dictated by player quality and competition. Also style, timing, etc. There are reasons why we already had or signed players who play in his zones. It’s not a shame if Harvey Elliott ends his Liverpool story with almost 150 games, some trophies and great memories, considering where he came from so young, his path and also had some injuries. We’ll see what happens this summer, but it’s really not weird if both sides agree that it’s probably best for him to find a new long term home to play regularly and kick on.
I noticed that the English players are the ones that have been side-lined by Slot. Quansah, Elliot and Jones. Have they stagnated to such an extent that they cannot get a look in?
Anyhow, with the benefit of hindsight, Elliot would have got plenty of opportunities given Salah’s poor form, Frimpong’s niggling injuries. Hope he comes back and contributes positively to the team.
The actual bottom line is that he won the league.
… with Jürgens squad and the mentality Jürgen brought into his squad.
Quansah and Elliott is no special story for me, but Jones’ case is a bit weird, yeah. Especially how Slot praised him in the first weeks of pre-season in 2024. I think something happened behind the scenes in last weeks and months, I don’t know what. Not a good situation considering Endo and Jones are our backup central midfielders on paper (not necessarily in that order, because other players can be above Endo). And both might leave this summer. And people imagine this big bag of cash arriving from Real for Mac… I’m not sure that will happen at all. It’s not like he’s the one and obvious option for them on the market.
that doesnt make him beyond reproach though,
and the way Slot has treated most of our young lads who were in and about the 1st team at the start of his tenure has been poor

Yeah. And Rafa won the champions league with Houllier’s squad.
It’s a silly argument. Slot was the coach. He set them up. It was his tactics. His set up. He won the league.
Klopp wouldn’t have won the league in 24/25 had he stayed. He was knackered. It needed a new voice at that point.
It would have been nice to get minutes into Quansah and Elliott, but Slot didn’t trust them and decided not to select them, and his decisions were vindicated by him winning the big trophy.

you know that for sure?
i agree Klopp looked knackered, but here’s a thought…
what if seen the team go top of the league,
and seen Man City playing like they did,
it might have breathed a bit of life back into Klopp,
enough for him to finish 1 more season and lead his Liverpool team to the title?
That was last year, not to likely to be close this year, hence the discomfort about Slot,my beef is that he tends to have his favourites and seems to pretend other players don’t exist, that is why some choose to leave, sure that was Elliots concern as a young player.

Only in part. When our results started to nosedive towards the end of the season, it was a brilliant chance for Slot to give the likes of Elliot, Quansah and others who hadn’t got so many minutes until then the chance to show what they could do. Instead of that, he continued to keep them on the bench, clearly telling them that they could go and fuck off. Meanwhile, our performances plumetted to abysmal standards. At the time, nobody cared because we had won the league, but we can see now that Slot’s incapacity or unwillingness to maintain the high existing standards at the club led to a bad end of the season. Some of the problems we have now come from there.
Slot won the league, and that was great, fair enough. But it’s also fair to say that right after that, and the season was still on, he started doing some strange things, and those things have translated right into this one. The current dynamics isn’t good, and he’ll probably have to go. On that, we agree I think?
Below the bottom line, the subterranean line is that Harvey’s a good player, a lovely lad, but never going to be a starter for us no matter who the trainer is.
Naturally enough, he’s reaching his peak years, and wants to be starting games, therefore he had to look elsewhere. I think he could do a job at a Brentford/Fulham/Bournemouth type club and have a very solid PL career like Harry Wilson or Nico Williams for example. He has just been unlucky this season in being at a club where he’s not appreciated.
Great lad, I wish him all the best.
You aren’t POTY for nothing, well said and yes I was paid to say that.
Agreed on everything, gutted for him and I really wanted him to make it as everytime he played for us he always gave 100%
Hust lacked physicality and pace
Elliott is still 22, his peak is 4 years away.
Regardless of whether he could have become starter or not, he was an important player for us, whom Slot bombed out without so much as giving him a chance.
Again and as been said and understood by most, Harvey wanted more game time and saw his chances, obviously, blocked even more with the the purchase of Flo.
I didn’t say he’d reached, but was reaching his peak years, not year. Peak years being 23-29 for a player in his position.
Let’s flip it around. What’s your plan for him? Keep him hanging around on the fringes of the team, popping up in the 85th minute occasionally, or starting the odd domestic cup game? Clearly, that’s not what he wanted and that’s fair enough.
Seems like it is history now,Elliott saw he wasn’t getting time..blind Freddy could see that as with other players, and felt he had to move.
Slot seems to have an ability to make it clear he doesn’t like players and doesn’t give them a chance.
As has been pointed out, when last season fell off a cliff why didn’t he give the likes of Elliott and others a run, wouldn’t have thought it was rocket science, the league was won, so why not look to the future.
In retrospect, in this season, that seems a reasonable assumption, but obviously not in Slots mind.
He didn’t get 45 minutes or more in a premier league game until mid or late March. He was rarely getting even 20 minutes an appearance.
Therefore with Flo coming even further down the pecking order.

No one is begrudging Elliott for leaving. He did the right thing for his career. The frustration is with Slot’s treatment of him.

It did, but I don’t think that was the driving factor behind his decision. It’s not like it’s the first time we bought someone who would play ahead of him. He could see that under Slot he wasn’t getting playing time no matter what.
