RIP to all those who perished in this tragedy.

Gone but never forgotten.

RIP to all those who perished in this tragedy.

Gone but never forgotten.

This is very welcome. It was a terrible tragedy and a stain on our club. Of course the stadium was shoddy and there were errors made, but in the end it was supporters of our club who bear the blame. It was a sad day for football, our club and for us.
RIP

Rest in peace.
What else can I say.
This was the stadium neither club wanted to play at because of the state and security issues. Yet both clubs were ignored.
A real tragedy, extremely sad. All my thoughts to those who suffered so much, I will never forget.
RIP.
a terrible event
Gone, but never forgotten!

RIP to the 39
I was just talking about this the other day. I had a sort of Sliding Doors moment over this.
I had an Aunt who was living in Brussels at the time, and I had tried to get tickets from the club. They were sold out very quickly, and the advice from the club was not to purchase tickets from unofficial sources as the had concerns over touts and forgers.
Anyway, 3 days before the match, my Aunt had been visiting and asked if I wanted to go back with her as tickets were still on sale. I was tempted, but something sounded off. I refused the offer (much to the relief of my mother).
As it transpired, the tickets were genuine and would have been for the section of the stadium that collapsed.
That has always haunted me, and it has always riled me that the football authorities have never really tightened up on their attitude to ticketing.

41st anniversary of the Heysel tragedy - On 29-May-1985, the Heysel disaster took place, in which thirty-nine people lost their lives on an evening that was meant to be a joyous event.
I remember that day very well. I was in Liverpool, in my room at the hall of residence, listening to the match on radio, listening to the tragedy unfold. The football did not matter anymore.
May the 39 rest in peace.

Our day of shame. A guy I knew at that time was all Billy Big Bollocks when he got back, bragging about how he had been in the charge towards the Juventus fans and had lobbed chunks of concrete at them. I do wonder what he thinks on each anniversary and whether he now feels any personal responsibility for the 39 who died and the 600+ injured. He should do. I would find that hard to live with.
There is plenty of shame to go around. From the knivings by the Italians in Rome the previous year, to UEFA choosing a dilapidated ground that was literally coming apart by hand, not bothering to inspect the stands because it was cold and raining and allocating the tickets of the neutral stands to the local market, where they were swept up by Italian immigrants.
It was a disaster that had many instigators, anyone of whom could have prevented it.
Both clubs wanted the venue changed due to the state of the stadium and the security. UEFA knew better.

RIP to the 39. As has already been said, this is a day of shame for many.
First, the many who followed the hooligan culture at the time of course. But today, Iβd like to name and shame Jacques George, in charge of the UEFA at the time. A total amateur, who directly has 39 lives and 600+ injured on his conscience, as he deliberately ignored the request of both clubs to move the final to a safer stadium.
