Hugo EKITIKE: 2025/26

He’s missed 3 sitters with his head since being compared to Torres.

Forging his own path.

He actually missed three or four before it!

All the heading ability of a baby giraffe.

Yeah, I’m glad it was at least on target. The last few have been rather dreadful. It’s that hair :joy:

I was calling him Torreslike from game one (so add 3 or so to tally of missed headers)

In all honesty, my mate and I have also been drawing comparisons of him and Torres from the first day. That said, I remember Torres scoring headers but I can’t remember him being this bad at them. When the team creates so little, especially with an overrun midfield, he really needs to do his best to make the most out of those rare chances that do come his way.

Imagine.
Probably fits the age cohort for those not allowed practice as kids. The headed chances he has missed is a concern.

its a fair point you make

even though the science suggests it has negative affects we should blanket train kids to head a football because when one on 300,000 makes it to the top league, we dont want to see them waste an oppurtunity to win a football match

It was said tongue in cheek to a degree, given my futile stance in the heading debate. I’ll use emojis in future.
But to the fair, the point stands. He is very poor at heading the ball, which is still an essential skill in football.

yeah i was only baiting…

agreed, i said it way way back up in this post, albeit i was refering to the higher ball into no mans land that strikers in this league need to be competitive with.

his games not perfect, he is fun to watch, but like a lot of strikers of his age group, he can be very much around the edge of a game for long periods…

i know its terribly old fashioned of me, and a bit out of touch, but im hoping they can work on it in training this week, Hopefully they can squeeze some practice in between the more beneficial mental breaks and downtime with family…

Yeah, watching some of his headers recently made the Torres comparison even less legit than it was for me.

If Salah leaves this summer, I feel he will take that #11 shirt.

On closer inspection it turns out he doesn’t have an armband that reads YNWA. I bet those people speaking about the similarities feel pretty stupid now.

A goal and two assists today. He’s doing fine as himself

Yeah, he has a weird knack of getting numbers in a few games in a row then goes a bit cold with it for a few games. Firmino and Diaz had seasons like that.

All part of becoming a regular goalscorer at a big club. Something Isak might be (or was brought in to be), though remains to be seen how that work with both of them.

I’d just let Hugo be Hugo, without the needless comparisons. He has already a pretty original combination of skills.

Has he kissed the badge yet? ‘Cause, you know, Fernando never did.
