Hugo EKITIKE: 2025/26

He’s immature and he’s 23 with full seasons behind him. He ignores teammates, he takes too long with the ball and he tries flicks and tricks which make him look like an idiot when they don’t come off.

He’s got the talent to be a top-level striker for this club, but he has a lot of growing up to do

That’s valid criticism. A good coach/manager should be able to mould him into a top class striker.

When we finally showed some courage to get the ball forward to him, PSG players were already swarmed all over him or forcing him down blind alleys before we could get anybody up in support (or rather anybody bothered getting up in support).

It’s like not only do the players not have the belief in themselves, but they don’t have belief in each other which is where the demoralisation and sadness kicks in.

The man that gets paid handsomely to sort this mess out and find the solutions …hasn’t been able to, which is why we’re witnessing the same shit game after game.

The pressure on Hugo’s shoulders to spearhead the attack while our record signing has been on the sidelines all season has caught up to him the past few months, which is why he hasn’t been the same player.

It’s funny to pick on Ekitikè when we played with 7 in the back line and they all played shit .
PSG had it so easy they had 5 players to take out Wirtz and Ekitikè FFS.

Bit like Dom, they’ve shown in my view enough to avoid criticism (beyond silliness you see creeping in), as I said elsewhere the form of both Hugo and Dom in recent weeks shows a laziness and comfortability that has creeped in.

When he did get the ball at his feet yesterday he was shocking, but I have some sympathy for him. He was played as an out ball for a long punt down the field, and he absolutely isn’t that.

He’s no Peter Crouch :face_blowing_a_kiss:.

They are feeding on scraps mind. Isak will get the same moaning treatment when he looks lost upfront for this team in the remaining few games. The Midfield is devoid of playing with any rhythm and then Maca will go down and claim a foul every fucking time.

I think it’s fair to say that we’ve had to use Ekitike more than we imagined this year. He is really young, and he has a lot to learn.

A big problem with him is that he looks great when the game is going his way, when he can be all skills and running in behind. But he isn’t really up for grafting, and sometime as a centre forward you have to do the mucky stuff. You have to get into a scrap with an alehouse centre back. That will come with age and experience.

He’s not young, he joined us having turned 23. For his age though, he’s got interesting (in)experience. He’s already trained and played with some of the best players of this era, but we can say Frankfurt was an important step before joining a title holder like Liverpool. What I said above isn’t a dig at him, I like the player, but we’re on a forum and it’s valid to talk about player strengths and weaknesses. Every player has them. Lately, he’s had some off games.

He was awful last night.
He hasn’t the capacity to hold the ball, needs a lot of work. At 23.

And other games I’ve been impressed that it hasn’t bounced a mile away off him like several others.

He had a bad game and has hit a bit of a rut but there are serial underperformers in that team before I worry a bit about a downturn in form especially in this team and set up.

Like this young fella, give him more time under a good Manager then see, almost everyone has been off lately, he is not one to toss out easily.

I thought he was 21. Didn’t realise he was 23!

Second striker. Cool.

I imagine where do some other players play then.

:joy:

Second goalie?

The more I see from him, the more I realise just how much hard work is ahead of him if he’s to blossom into a complete striker. I think he has virtually all the required traits, both physical and technical, but he looks like someone who isn’t accustomed to playing “suffering football” and who can be relied upon to score in games where the opponent restricts his team to one or two chances.

I’m really happy he’s playing for Liverpool, though, I just want him to be the best he can be and not some fairweather striker. You can see him doing backheels in games like the one against PSG when there’s absolutely no need to do it, where his job is supposed to be to keep that ball as high up the pitch as possible. Those moments suggest immaturity, so hopefully that will be improved with time.

What a kicker this is. Not confirmed by the club yet but doesn’t look good.

Lets hope Isak can get fully fit and injury free. Also puts yet another spanner in the works for this Summer’s window as he’ll be out till January 2027 give or take and we’ll only have Gakpo and Isak as recognised strikers.

A friend of mine who knows a thing or two about these things told me that he has ruptured it, he’s definitely out for the rest of the season. Pre-season depends on the type of rupture.

Big blow for him, especially as I thought he was going to be used quite a bit by France at the WC. Basically the first striker below Mbappe and sometimes even in combination with him.

Isak will surely go if he’s fit on paper, regardless of his sharpness. That’s understandable and I’ve got no issues with it, just saying.

Means there could be quite a while before we have Ekitike and Isak both in normal fitness and form together at the same time.
