Wonder how this effects Everton.
I’ll be looking at their accounts loss in the next few days, they will be more nervous than some, if they go down it’s going be pretty hard for them considering the FFP of the Championship, don’t get out within one season and it could get nasty.
Spurs, Arsenal and the like still have PL money even if they fall foul of FFP and will just miss out on Europe in some distant future.
Even Newcastle were a bit clever on their spending as they will be fine if they had gone down.
Aye, it seems they are more reliant on the money of their sugar daddy than someone like Chelsea now are. The combination of these sanctions at falling into the championship could precipitate a Sheffield Wednesday type slide into irrelevancy for a once important club.
Good question, they don’t have the same financial strength as Chelsea, and Abramovic is their main lender so for them if he loses control at Chelsea they are still in very good shape financially, whereas Everton appear to have no money except what the owners can put in.
Everton have spent heavily under Moshiri, and I’m not sure how much of that spending has been matched by cash coming into the club or whether he was expecting to put it in over the course of those deals. They were having to fiddle naming right deals with Usmanov to get money into the club too.
They don’t have that many players that can generate much revenue if sold either.
The English lower divisions are replete with once great clubs that had faded into irrelevance. My own city has two - Nottingham Forest (twice winners of the European Cup; how many is that more than City, Pep…) and Notts County (founder members of the football league). Clubs like Wednesday, Sunderland, Derby, West Brom, Blackburn, Birmingham, Ipswich etc
If they do go down it could be exactly what they need to reset, or it could finish them. Especially if Umanov is sanctioned.
I think the one thing in Everton’s favour if they go down is that they have a decent youth set up and haven’t been afraid to play their youngsters in the first team. They just need to develop patience and rebuild. Having no money may help with that.
We really, really need to find Marcel Brands and give him the key to the City.
Russian money flows right into Everton, anybody who doesn’t think Moshiri is Usminov’s front man, is being a bit naive. Finch Farm is named after Usminov’s company, he’s bought the naming rights for the new stadium and there’s a sponsorship from a telecoms company also. What will Everton do about this?
Blame Liverpool FC, as usual.
In case of emergency put Big Dunc in charge for a bit to appease the moaning hordes and then appoint someone entire inappropriate to get them out of the mess they’re in. Wonder if it works for ownership as well as managers.
This is definitely true. One thing i do wonder is whether Moshiri will be able to dip into his own money without Usminov around or of the latter will fund via other means. Moshiri is reportedly worth a couple of billion himself - although some of that could be tied up due to sanctions too.
So the tons get a public and written apology for the non handball pen…so can they rescind the 3 point win to the shitty…and make it 1 point for a draw…!!!
I think Moshiri is the accountant for Usmanov. Seems likely that his money is tied into Usmanov’s dealings as well.
Lets have it right, their fans have been lapping up the links with Usmanov and the money it brought them. From the potential size of wealth they could tap into, to the pre-sponsorship of a yet to be built stadium that got them round the regulations about self sponsorship. From his company being the shirt sponsor of the women’s team to that company name being plastered on the outside of Goodison. They have been happy to have this person associated with their club, even bragging about it at some points.
People’s club my arse.
Oh come on they are the “Peoples Democratic republic of the Russian Federation” club.
Gem from bitters
If we lose our USM dough we’re basically another Crystal Palace type outfit hoping for a solid 10th-12th place finish every season at best.
Am I missing something here, isn’t that what Everton are now and have been for a very long time? And they call us deluded.
Anyone want to tell them?
I dunno, that seems to be resigning themselves to the fact their dreams of 8th may no longer be possible.
