My attitude towards these things is to believe as many as possible of the transfer people during the transfer window, and then see what happens.
I’m sensing a deadline day deal.

Or not:
Well, that’s that.
Perhaps we prefer Minteh, or someone else?
I see a lot of people complaining about Minteh online, but I think he would do well here. Fast, good in the press, helps out defensively, Prem proven. Ok there’s a bit more end product to come, but I think it will, and he will look better again with the platform we could give him.
my problem is, he’s injured. That’s a bad start for any player coming in. It just reminds me of Alberto Aquilani. And what are we supposed to do in the meantime?
Bit strange to me for 55? I feel like we would have easily matched that if we truly wanted the lad. Or PSG told us to kick rocks.
Oh well. He’s a kid as is Rio. With two other wingers who’ve never played in the Premier League I think going for a more experienced option would be wise.
I get the impression that we have a strong interest in Minteh; otherwise, we wouldn’t have already made two bids for him.
True, he is a kid, but from what I’ve seen of him he looks better than Rio and may have a bigger upside. My question is about the defensive side of his game. But then again you could raise that same question about Rio. Who knows, maybe if he came and worked under Iraola he would’ve developed that side as his game is still very malleable.
I wonder if we’d swoop in on him now that a price has been agreed with Villa. I haven’t read that he’s reached personal terms, so that could be our approach if Brighton won’t negotiate on Minteh.
What happened to the rumoured €70m price we were being quoted?
Still seems a lot for a kid PSG were actively trying to get rid of but not so high we might not have gone to it had we really wanted him.
Either he’s a world beater in two years time and he goes to Chelsea for £100m or he’s in the bomb squad at Villa along with Garnacho and they’re struggling to shift him to Saudi for £25m. Definition of boom or bust.
But is he that much better to spend 50mil quid on?
Can he give a good contribution this year or even the next? If not, is it not better to save the money and buy somebody who can in January or next summer?
Maybe he can. I don´t know.
yeah I’m not sure. But then again you’re seeing a Champions League participating club in Aston Villa buying him. Who knows, maybe it’s because of the financial restrictions that they’re having to get a winger at that price where we would probably pay more for the quality that we’re looking for. And that’s where Minteh to comes into the picture. I just have a problem signing a player who is currently recovering from a surgery. We just won’t know what we’re getting.
And you have to remember, he wouldn’t cost that much had he been purchased by say a Bundesliga side. It’s because PSG know that Premier League sides can pay a premium and they make sure that they do. And Aston Villa are desperate. Their squad has been decimated and they hardly have any proper attacking players left.
I do think he´s more their aspirational level than ours though, from what I have seen. I don´t see any benefit to signing Minteh now tbh. Out for 3 months is it?
Better to wait until January if we want him. Or Rayan. And we can see if any other options emerge until then that we want more. I think our 4 winger options are enough in the absence of an outstanding option that can play now.
Very true on the Prem premium. Unlike us I think Villa now need to buy somebody.
That’s precisely the point. We were seemingly interested in him as a lower priced prospect but they wanted more for him than we paid for the more experienced Munoz. It’s a deal you can see why we thought it didnt make sense for us. But now a price has seemingly been agreed we have some concrete to evaluate. If we value him at that level we could presumably still hijack it, and who doesnt love a good hijack it. If we let Villa go ahead you can presume that we simply dont see the value in what PSG were able to hold out for.
Potential sell on fee was a real sticking point between us. Id imagine the Villa deal includes one, whereas we didnt want that.
I’m pretty happy to be missing out on this one to be honest.
Read a posting on reddit on Mbaya entourage (parents) demands, with Mbaya completely ignorance on the mess going around him regarding changes of agents. It’s just as messy as Yan Diomande.
There was a story about that earlier. I think he is now with Jorge Mendes agency and his parents are out of the picture.
