Still needs to work on both his positioning and his passing. Once he’s fine tuned those two aspects of his game, he’s going to be the new VVD.
And, like the above says, he’s only 22 years old. Insane potential.

Brilliant! Looks like a father restraining his over exuberant child.
I would be surprised if he accepted Mali invitation. I think it was just last summer he captained the France U21 at Euros.
He would likely have to play more consistent minutes for us for consideration with France senior squad, but at cursory glance there isn’t at all much a gap between he and Upamecano, Lenglet, or Zouma. Lucas Hernandez a step up and maybe Kounde (who I personally think is overrated), but Konate isn’t far off that second group of guys IMO.
If Laporte was ignored when he was a regular for City, then we shouldn’t be surprised if Konate is. We’ll see what happens, Deschamps might also leave after Qatar. Maybe Konate waits a little bit still, or accepts soon.
I’d take Konate over any of these. Upamecano is overrated and struggling. Zouma is awful and should be in legal trouble anyway, with so many good to brilliant CB options for France I wouldn’t go near him. Lenglet and Hernandez are ok. Kounde is ok but Konate is better and has more all round to his game than any of them. A lot of them need to be in correctly set up systems to look good as they have weaknesses to their game!
I couldn’t agree more. But I’ve also been called an Ibou “Stan”, so I tried to be objective with my post.
Ibou using Attack on Titan’s anime in his twitter.
I think this is reasonable, albeit heavily tinged with pro-liverpool perspectives, but it’s Deschamps in charge. Already being in the group seems to carry a lot of weight with him, to the point its going to be difficult to shift one of those guys in general, let alone when only playing occasionally. Not a reason to pick Mali at this young an age, but maybe an expectation setting thing about how likely he is to be going to the world cup.
I hope he doesn’t choose Mali simply because of the whole AFCON thing
The AFCON is returning to June/July from next year.
Isn’t it…?
Until they realise that there is no way the climate will allow them to. I’ve said it before on some thread, I think. Unless they can limit the competition to being held in only the same countries there is no way that it will only be held in June/July. It’s simply not possible.
Yeah, Europeans don’t seem able to grasp that for some reason.
Thought he had some little issues with Antonio 1v1.
Potential is there, I don’t think it’s necessarily the highest one, but for now there’s still no question who is our 2nd choice CB.
Held it every time in SA, problem solved.
Scandinavia would be a good choice for me.
Would be best for everyone. Our team sucks but we have the best stadiums, pitches, infrastructure, transport network, training facilities and hotels in Africa. If only.
The CAF haven’t grasped that either to be fair.
That’s brilliant. He’s popping up with a fair few goals too.
