Ibrahima KONATE: 2024/25

Is 200k a week that unreasonable for a player like Konate? Don’t see it personally. Hasn’t been great since the break but he’s been one of our most consistent players this season.

We signed a guy called Thiago and thought it was a good idea to give him over 10m a year knowing he was a crock.

Just looking at Wikipedia for his appearances (includes PL, UCL, domestic cups and sub appearances)

21/22 = 29 apps
22/23 = 24 apps
23/24 = 37 apps
24/25 = 36 apps (ongoing)

So he’ll probably break the 40 game mark for us this season, but then you look at someone like Van Dijk since he signed for us, and his rumored current salary is supposedly £220k per week :

17/18 = 22 apps (Jan-May)
18/19 = 50 apps
19/20 = 50 apps
20/21 = 8 apps (thanks to T-Rex)
21/22 = 51 apps
22/23 = 41 apps
23/24 = 48 apps
24/25 = 43 apps (ongoing)

I don’t know if we could do something like offer him £150k a week, and a bonus if he surpasses a certain appearance figure that would be hefty so it’d be as though he’d earned £200k a week?

We usually say we have the best GK, CB, 2nd best CB etc. Hardly a surprise they want to be paid accordingly. Can’t have it both ways.

Not all of that is because of injury either. For the first 2 seasons especially there was significant competition for games. This year after establishing himself as a clear starter the only games he’s missed from injury were ones that came after his knee was taken out by a Sonic the Hedgehog move. Not only can you not ping him for physical unreliability on that, he actually came back from injury early after that one.

He has periods where he has been marvelous, but periods where he was shaky enough that saw a 20 year old preferred over him last season. The latter should be more of a consideration for how far we push the boat out to resign him than injury concerns.

Yeah, well… that’s fan’s opinions, which can differ quite a bit from what a top club like Liverpool does on a daily basis.

Luckily, we’re not the ones making those decisions.

Thank fuck for that.

Could you imagine @The-AllMightyReds in charge of first team recruitment?

$200k isn’t an issue as long as it incentive based.

Which all players contracts need to be to encourage players to strive to be the best and to get rewarded for performing to the highest level.

He’d sell the whole squad at half time

For a shiny new pebble

He is very hit and miss, 200k is a hell of a lot of money.

But if it is incentivised and he was hit and miss then wouldn’t be 200k, also, even though he is going through an iffy spell he has been part of the bedrock of our league position this year.

I was at a loss with Ibou almost gifting Fulham a goal as he had an easy initial ball to Macca on the edge of the box who had no one near him!

Something is going on with him. His head has gone ever since the return leg with PSG. It’s been one mental mistake after another.

I know it is the easy take, but has his head been turned with regards of wanting to go to his boyhood club?

Is he conflicted in what he wants as he does look happy with us?

He is from Paris, but PSG isn’t really his boyhood club and they weren’t particularly important a club during his formative years.

He hasn’t been the same since that toerag from Madrid clattered him earlier in the CL.

But sources, unsure of reliability, say that it is a club that he supports/would like to play for?

I look at Harvey and my take is Liverpool is his boyhood club as it is the one he loves/supports, we may have different definitions.
