Yes, well I do appreciate that’s how Slot rolls, and I mentioned Gomez particularly in relation to this Konate thread, but of course he treats others the same.
But… That’s what I don’t understand. He’s limiting his own options at a time when his regular choices are struggling and hardly inspiring those players who are mostly missing out on playing time. I just don’t think it’s enough to say, that’s what he does.
But isn’t (partly) the point of having back up players so that when your regulars (like Konate) are struggling with their form, those back ups can cover for a few games, to give the first choices a time out and also a timely reminder that they’re not immune to being dropped?
I’m sure Gomez realises he’s not going to be first pick in defence, but to see the fluctuations in Konate’s performances and still not get a game…? That’s hardly encouraging.
Yes, it should be like that. But I’m not surprised that Gomez isn’t in for Konate as quick as Konate was in for Quansah last season. Or after a few games, because Konate has was really shaky already in the first games this season. Or in the old rotation of Virgil & whoever was in best form at a given period (Lovren, Gomez, Matip, Konate… they all had their time). He might get a game soon, we’ll see. Would I expect something significantly different? Not really.
It’s about time we inject some new quality at CB. Right now, there is no healthy competition and we’re actually praying that something doesn’t happen to the main two either.
Well, there you have it. Let’s hope nothing happens to Virgil especially and rusty old Joe has got to partner flaky Ibrahima, or sacrifice Ryan from our midfield to cover.
i like Gomez and he definitely deserves to play more, he’s a good solid player who forms a good partnership with VDD.
made 32 EPL appearance in Klopps last season,
Slot comes in and Joe is completely out of the picture unless we’re desperate,
same could be said of other Klopp regulars, Elliott, Endo?
seems to be if Slot doesnt rate you, there nothing you can do about,
and no matter how badly his favourites play your still getting a sniff of the 1st team
Gomez played 51 games in all competitions in Klopp’s final season, 44 of which in full back positions.
Every era has it’s individuals who don’t play much. And I think it’s also a natural reaction in bad times that we look at other players and think whether they could change something.
Totally agree. Gomez has had a few poor games during his many years with us but I think people forget the many excellent games he’s had. The vast majority a solid 6-7 out of 10.
Konate never has a 6-7 game. It’s either a 9 or a 4. Honestly I’m fed up with him at this stage. Not knowing what you’re going to get. Will be happy to see him leave if we can get a solid, reliable replacement
I see that he didn’t play against Ukraine yesterday night. He’s obviously out of favour with Deschamps, and probably rightly so for the time being. His form has been too fluctuating this season.
So, Konate is going to update us very soon, on his future. Hopefully, he gives everyone an early Christmas present by announcing he’s not signing a new contract.
The club should buy Guehi and another in january and sit him on the bench until the summer and avoid another Trent saga repeat. I think he is going to Paris and Upamecano to real.
I am sick and tired of so many players running down their contracts especially the ones going to those two clubs.
