Here is another one but appears to be a real broadcast in 2018.
Depends on biscuit - a ginger nut would be option 2, something with less rigidity option 3.
As a kid, around 10-11, I would take option 5 - finish coffee, leaving a little bit in the cup then mix it with the broken biscuit with a teaspeen then eat it. Especially if it was a custard cream ![]()
I don’t dunk biscuits however I would probably try/do 2 to 4 then if that fails or I actually get to the end fall back to 1.
Trigger warning in advance
The algorithm somehow threw this up for me (The Epstein rabbit hole). At first I was disgusted even by the title but curiosity and the hope for a happy resolution (thank goodness, yes!!) led me to listen to this.
Some information on Wikipedia about him as well:
I’ll save you a tough watch…he used the second world war and preventing another cause of a world war as a reason for allowing his experiment
That was an very interesting read. Particularly his education , early life and the beginning of his work. He was clearly an extremely brilliant man. And clearly in hindsight, evidence that brilliant men and women with tunnel vision, needs someone to ground them to reality.
His project appears extraordinary dangerous with a risk much too high for the children. It’s a bit absurd that this very public senate funded project was allowed to grind on without anyone asking very serious control questions. I am all for science and I am also all for more science on how pedophiles work (and how they can maybe be taught to live but not act on their sexual disorder), but some projects are bonkers irresponsible and this is such a project.
But let us be honest, this:
Is clearly the cultural legacy of the pre-nazi and nazi era. Not sure I will even blame him particularly for the thinking per see, as the entire society was infected with this kind of social darwinism (hardly got erased in the first decade after the war, some learned ideas will live longer). But it is Social Darwinism and to the modern mind this is extremely grotesque.
But what is most damning, far more than the tunnel vision of one “mad” psychologist, is that there is a civil society, a large governing body, reviewing this and even funding it. This governing body was ok with mentally handicapped teenagers being placed in the care of pedophiles and they were aware that they would sexually be likely involved with ther foster parents, but some how “science” (or should I say Social Darwinism) trumped safety, care and human worth.
I suspect that a lot of it relates to psychoanalysis not having been critically assessed in the 1960s and 70s. If you have ever read the likes of Freud, many of his ideas are merely asserted rather than having any basis in verifiable study. Unfortunately, I have come across plenty of people in positions of authority who think “I reckon…” trumps any form of methodological research.
Speaking of which…
Beyond the title, which is neither here nor there I found the article quite interesting.
The snip directly below is the morceau of interest…
In the UK you are expected to work to 67 and this article is basically saying that it is likely diminishing returns for the employer for the last 8 years or so.
There has to be a rethink in how we approach shelf-life and the transition to the after-life…
I was going to post this for the whole of the UK, which shows a similar trend:
I’m interested how much is related to the Covid pandemic and how much were ongoing trends. The Lancet did an analysis a few years ago and the biggest factors were smoking, low income, and high bodyweight. Smoking has been dropping for years, so you would expect that to find it’s way out of the figures. High bodyweight is often a proxy for other issues. I’m wondering whether that could become a major proxy for poverty, since those with money can afford the latest generation of weight loss drugs.
I was approaching this from a bang for buck perspective. The physical degradation and resulting time off that is incurred is less output per individual and reduced efficiency for the employer. This is one aspect. Another aspect, which is less calculable and of value to consider, is the reduced mental/intellectual/social plasticity and or capacity - which liklely has an equal impact and more difficult to solve.
Expect that one to be buried soon. Who does advancement to the human race anymore?? RFK will have a hernia when he hears about this.
