International Football

I must say that the new formula with the four games in a row is starting to grow on me. Better than have continual breaks further down the line. And watching national teams four times in row allows you to get a feel for them, and also allows them to work together for a longer time. When that is done, the players will come back and enjoy being together again.

I don’t see a downside to it, but many upsides.

The England v Spain game was a very good watch and if Kane hadn’t fluffed his penalty I think England would have won.

They did a number on you, didn’t they? I saw the highlights, they seemed absolutely impressive. I don’t watch every game of theirs, but everytime I see something from them, I’m under the impression that they must be the best national team I’ve watched since a long time, maybe since I’m alive (too young for Brazil’s 1970 team).

Agree with you on the midfield, I can’t really see anyone coming through. Oh for a Roy Keane style CM.

The defense is reasonably ok, I’ve been impressed with Abankwah overall over the last few games, but more to come hopefully

Yeah my friend who is an England fan told me they played well. Only saw the goals.

They did, first half an hour they were all over us, we couldn’t get out.

They’re so smooth and they can do this to teams also while leaving the impression like they can reach another gear if they want to.

In the 2nd haalf up until the penalty miss Englands was on top but the difference was how much better Spain in the crucial moments in regards to an attacking sense.

Absolutely, hope. International footy used to be an important and exciting part of the calendar and, while players may not be able to practice together for as long, in a less lopsided PL/other domestic comps, it could once again represent a football pinnacle. Ironic for Jurgen to be part of this after all his railing against international footy but football is replete with them.

Not sure where this should go but

Víctor Muñoz came on in the 2nd half replacing Yamal.

What happened to your Croatian team, mate? Losing 7-0 to England on the back of losing 5-1 to Spain just before is quite something, even without the usual fans in the stadium. Not accustomed to that.

Yeah, that was probably the absolute worst I ever saw Croatia play.

Just all round horrible.

And created an assist for the third goal. :+1:

Does the coach survive these defeats?

I think he will, but we will see.

Impossible for me to know for sure.

I’m sure most all here did not see the USA v Mexico friendly last night, as it started 3am GMT, but the US, fielding a side with quite a few youngsters in it did Mexico 3-0.

Hall, a young striker, became the third in USMNT history to score in each of his first 3 apps, and the “wonder kid” Cavan Sullivan became the youngest ever to score for them, just 5 days after his 17th birthday.

Sullivan, a right winger, is fun watch. He gives off Mo vibes, in that he’s not a big lad, but strong on the ball, has buckets of pace, and a good left foot. He has played all year for the Philadelphia Union in MLS, and has 12 goal involvements (7G, 5A) in 24 apps. He has an agreement in place with Man City to sign at 18, but I imagine that could become null and void after sentencing. The thought of him and Rio on the wings together is enticing.

A bit of a helter skelter game with incessant turnovers but fully deserved victory.

I too have wondered about Calvan wrt LFC. The Hall kid plays beyond his age.

But my main interest is in Mehmedi ar RBNY
