That is allegedly what happened with Casemiro. His name is actually Casimiro, but São Paulo spelled it incorrectly when he first broke into the side and it went so well for him that he decided not to fuck with it so kept the incorrect spelling when it came to his football career.

Quite a few stories like that in the music world too.
Wife’s family were immigrants to America from Germany back in the day. Surname Faust. However, a misspelling at Ellis Island forever changed the name to Foust.

Well a few decades later whole names would be spelt different like Eichmann would turn into Klement.
Lucky they didn’t change it to Fist, which is the correct translation.
That’s interesting. Why would it change to Klement?
Because they needed something as different from Eichemann as possible?
