So three years ago West Ham had an electric striker coming through. England youth international, was getting game time at first team level and was talked about as the next big thing out of the Hammers’ academy. His name was Sonny Perkins.
Perkins however rejected their offer of a contract with West Ham accusing his agent of speaking to other clubs illegally. Eventually Perkins signed for Leeds (ironically the team he made his West Ham debut against) with a promise of an accelerated path to the first team.
West Ham were outraged with the conduct of the player, his agent and Leeds United. They took the matter to court and argued that Perkins should be worth a British record amount at tribunal. To this day I think Leeds and West Ham do not do business because of this.
Anyway, long story short Leeds took the young striker turned him into a midfielder, he played 89 total minutes across four games, was loaned to Oxford and Leeds have now sold him to Leyton Orient for a nominal fee.

Was he the player who got stuck in registration limbo unable to play for anyone for a year or so? I remember reading a story about a kid getting royally fucked because some sort of fight between the two clubs over this sort of thing.
I remember that it took a long time for him to join Leeds officially, both Villa and Spurs wanted him too, but I don’t think it was because of registration. He played in the Leeds first team that same season.
