I’m thinking more that even though he has his critics he still has still been a regular for them this season. They are allowing an important player to leave midseason without the offer being one that would pressure them into saying yes.

Nah, for me he’s not, it’s not enough.
Slightly overrated player also because of it, I’d say. Hence why it hasn’t really worked out for him at different places since leaving Southampton (his place) and hasn’t managed to be a regular in England squads when they’ve been a bit short of central midfielders.
Initially started alright for West Ham, but they lost themselves figuring out who plays where in midfield and attack. Lost count how many different combinations they tried.
