Jarell QUANSAH: 2024/25

Also this season , if he sees some game time. I’d rather him be used in RB.

Even if Konate returns this week or next he should still be getting lots of game time in January.

Yeah, you’d imagine he’s at least getting Man Utd, Accrington and one or both of Lille and PSV

Yeah that was my thinking. I’d probably play him in both CL games.

I’m afraid that Quansah’s self-confidence has taken the strongest hit when he made a mistake at Old Trafford that resulted in Fernandes scoring from near the halfway line, which is when the team’s steep downturn in form started. The team never recovered, and it probably lingered on in Quansah’s head even after the season had finished.

I think that Slot’s arrival and that half-time substitution only compounded that lack of self-belief from the end of the last season - he hasn’t played many games where he didn’t make a mistake since.

Maybe the only real criticism of Slot that I have up until now is the preparation and management of the recent Man United game. I don’t know if he wanted to protect Quansah (who is still very, very young, especially for a centre back) or if he misjudged Konate’s fitness levels but I’m certain that Trent should have been given the same treatment that Quansah got in Ipswich game - maybe not at the half-time but definitely should have got subbed off earlier in the second half.

Arne has been brilliant in his management/tactics, but got it wrong against Man U and also never rectified or seemed to try to rectify Man U’s dominance down our right.

Our game management on the pitch also let us down. A coach can control certain things, but not all of them. A good portion of it is on players. Be more compact, know when to do what. Was disappointing the way we played those final 10 minutes or so, having the lead and knowing already at that point that we’re not having our best day. Easier said than done, I know we cannot reset totally and fix all issues when the opponent creates problems for us, but it was more collective. Subs could’ve helped, but I’m not convinced it would’ve won us the game.

You’ve only just gone and jinxed him, haven’t you!

Because he couldn’t injure Gomez or Trent he fancies injuring Quansah.

I do hope Bradley is back post the break.

Hard done by. Unfairly so.

Quansah played as much as he did last year largely because of difficulties Ibou had. Ibou has been pretty much ever present this season in the main competitions, with even his one injury only resulting in a short absence, and that is a good thing.

The development trajectory for young players is a not a straight line. This is totally fine for a player of Quansah’s age playing at the level he is.

At that point, my comment was already a running joke, but I agree with you regarding Quansah. It’s ok, and the situation quite different to the way Endo and Elliot have been treated.

The thing for me is that whether it is at RB or CB Slot seems to be happy to put him in. He may not think of him as his first choice in either position, but he doesn’t seem to have the same hesitation to use him as he does with some of the other squad players.

It took Quansah a while to get himself into that position but I’m rather pleased by his response. I also hope that he can, in the least, take over Gomez’ role of a utility defender in the squad should Gomez depart in the summer. Quansah’s long term future should be here, in my opinion, regardless of who Liverpool buy this summer.

He might be me a better CB than Gomez, but he offers nothing close to what Gomez can at full back. He is extremely limited in what he can do on the ball compared to Joe.

For what it’s worth, I’ve never been thrilled with Gomez at fullback (admittedly, he spent most of his time there deputising for Trent and Robbo, so anyone would pale in comparison) but he did a good job there defensively.

That’s what I expect from Quansah should he start spending time at right back. He’s definitely not bad on the ball but that’s just one of the aspects I expect him to improve in.

Yeah Gomez has always been the defensive switch from Trent and Robbo, he’s never been good at offering us anything going forwards. Quansah isn’t to turn into a flying full back either but he’s comfortable playing that RB/RCB hybrid role.
