Jeremie FRIMPONG: 2025/26

Dumfries and Timber have had very good seasons. Geertruida not been picked either who has also played RB for them.

He mostly played as a winger for the Netherlands. I thought he would be in because they don’t have a lot of natural options for the right side (be it left footers or right footers), but I can also understand if he’s not in. He didn’t have a great season and recently dropped our of rhythm here.

I don’t think he’s shite but have no idea why we signed him. Seems his position is wingback which we don’t play. Arne clearly doesn’t trust him as a RB or he wouldn’t be starting Jones over him. And he’s definitely not good enough as a winger for us

Koeman emphasized that Frimpong’s ā€œpattern of this seasonā€ regarding injuries made him unreliable for the tournament, preferring players with better recent fitness records

Picked Timber though..

Suits us i think…get him sorted during the summer and hopefully put the niggly injuries behind him.

Homegrown quota, it’s the hill I’m ready to die on. I have nothing against him personally - he’s an excellent and positive character, seems also like a hard-working one. His playing qualities just don’t seem suited to whatever it is this team is trying to play. The best he can hope for is that Isak remains consistently fit and that Slot turns him into his own version of Jacob Murphy that will cross to Isak at every opportunity and hope that Isak will convert.

Maybe the master plan was that we play with wing backs, and that was knocked on the head when we had centre back issues?

The way fullbacks underlap with Slot’s tactics (last year as well), I’m not sure about this. My thinking might be outdated but I really pine for the days when fullbacks provided width and overlaps.

I believe we would’ve seen it at some stage this (or last, whatever you want to call it) season. The initial idea was probably more of an asymmetrical one, with Bradley or Frimpong playing more offensive or higher than Kerkez or Robertson on the other side. Then we changed a bit how we positioned our LB, especially in the build up phase.

All the other theories, 3 at the back with wing backs, a 4-diamond-2, anything else with both full backs pushing very high and wide (something that might be a lot easier for part of fans to scream and shout for and more difficult these days to accomplish on the pitch)… we would’ve seen it if that was the big plan.

We had serious issues this season and jobs and roles on the line. There’s nothing that prevented us from trying something or longer than we did if we had something different in plan.

But of course, certain issues occured already in pre-season and formations is only one thing. No formation can be good if we don’t play well enough as a team in all phases of the game.

I think Arne doesnt like using 3 CBs. I’m sure he was asked about it back in september or october and he was pretty dismissive of the idea.

Yup I just do t think he’s suited for us. In any position.

He started the season pretty well and looked a threat with his pace, but injuries to his hamstring seem to have affected his use if his explosive pace.

Needs to build up his strength and hammys and hopefully come back rejuvinated.

Another player that seems to have regressed.

He needs to use preseason to concentrate on defending. Pretty much like what Kerkez did after his initial struggles - he became mush more committed and aggressive at the back, and then his forward runs complemented it.

As it is, Frimpong is neither suited in a back four, nor being the prime forward right position.

I cannot understand why his national team manager threw him under a bus by not picking him especially with Simons out with an ACL injury?

Koeman was asked about Frimpong’s omission, and he cited the recurring injuries. It makes you wonder if he knows something we don’t.

Putting aside his position on the pitch for a moment—as a person and purely on a human level—I am truly glad that we have Jeremy with us. Especially now that Robbo is gone, it is important to have someone there who helps keep spirits high within the team; plus, he now has plenty of time to get himself fully fit again.

They don’t compete for the same spot.

I thought he would be called up and I’m sad he isn’t, but I also understand that he’s not one of their key players and some other players emerged.

Oooofff, I saw comments from him from just a few days ago saying something along the lines of he hopes Depay makes it and comes with ā€œus.ā€ He quite clearly was not expecting this.

His response above is excellent, compare it to Maguire’s!

Also, this will show what type of player personality he has, he now knows to represent his country he has to step up his club form.

Hopefully he gets his head down and works to improve both defensively and offensively.

he’s a lovely person from all that i’ve seen of him and how others light up in his presence.

I hope he proves to be a good enough and robust enough player for us
