Jeremie Frimpong (RB/RWB/RM) Bayer Leverkusen

It’s a savage indictment of the whole nation that there are so many possibilities.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, who has a release clause of about £30 million and has been playing as a right wingback or wide right with the Netherlands, is a leading candidate should Liverpool look to strengthen in that position this summer.

Yet it is also clear that there is confidence internally regarding Bradley’s capabilities. The 21-year-old has suffered two hamstring injuries this season, but the club’s medical department, headed by Dr Jonathan Power, is working on ensuring he becomes more durable for next term.

Oh no, does it count that @Nikola reopened this thread?

I don’t know. Does it?

In all honesty, @redalways, I don’t have a good feeling about Frimpong, so I wouldn’t want Liverpool to sign him.

That’s because you’re thinking of him as a right-back. What about as a Salah replacement?

Is there such a player, though? If Hughes can do a Real Madrid and get Saka to join Liverpool on a free in two years’ time…

There have also been some suggestions coming out of the club that Bradley is going through a late growth spurt, like Gerrard did, and a lot of the repeated injuries are a result of that.

Would fundamentally change our approach playing a right footer on the right.

Also, is now the time to be trying to bring in his successor?

It was a joke at @Nikola’s expense, really.

I’m not one of those people who believes in there being “starters” and “backups”. I think we benefit best from having a well-rounded squad with people who can slot in everywhere. I think having him as an option could be beneficial, but that’s based solely on one of those radar charts comparing him to right-backs, and the same with right-forwards.

I think apart from Elliott (and if you count Gordon), everyone who’s not Salah we’ve played on the right in recent years has been right-footed? Even Mané is right-footed. Doak was the one who took over for some games during the most recent AFCON and he’s right-footed.

The way I’m looking at any potential deal for Frimpong is that if I read from Paul Joyce in a column in June that Liverpool had no interest in signing a right back because they felt they had the perfect one in Bradley and were confident they could keep him and Gomez fit for the season, I wouldn’t be surprised and I wouldn’t think it was the end of the world. So to get another one in to help that is brilliant.
The fact that he’s an exceptionally talented footballer, home grown, pacy, covers two positions, dirt cheap and seems like a fun guy who’ll add to the dressing room, well it’s hard to be mad, even if there are some questions of him defensively and as a right back.
