Doesn’t get to leave us without scoring…

It’s the year 2070, and he’s still stuck on the bench coming on as a late sub.

Taken from here:

Good to see JoGo getting recognition from the national media, as well as from our captain.

There has to be a penalty somewhere down the road that Mo can give up

On a side note, poor Gomez, only the second-most talked about Joe on this forum…

I wonder why Slot chose Gomez as CB and Quansah at RB - perhaps he trusts Gomez’ experience more? I really hope it’s not the recurrence of 2022/23 when Gomez played a world class game against Man City, only to become a disaster at centre back for the rest of the season. That against Newcastle was one of his worst games ever, the goal Gordon scored was laughable.

It’s just Gomez.

He has the same strong and weak points he had when he was at his best at the start of 18/19 until his injury and part of 19/20. That was his peak, so it all looked better in runs of games.

Can’t relax too much and think he’s a vastly improved player if he comes in after a long time and plays a good game at CB.

Also, can’t be too surprised with his ability to suddenly come in when needed, anywhere in defence, and do a good job for the team.

But give him a run of games in his main position, his weaknesses (especially when defending transitions, going backwards and simply in deeper areas) have not gone away.

It shows what and why he is exactly a backup player. How long that continues to satisfy us to have him as our 3rd (right now) or 4th CB and basically our 9th defender (first one to cover in hard times), we’ll see.

I’d say Joey G’s ups have been our most pleasant surprise this season followed closely by The Grav’s turning with the ball

Not turning his back/arse to the opponent when he defends going backwards is also something that should be a ‘big thing’. But that will never change at this stage, it’s Joe Gomez. Strengths and weaknesses. In 2018 and 2024. But good for him, if he’s getting closer to scoring his first goal…

Thanks Livvy, that was some performance from Joe, best bit is the pass on 1:08 mins, that is what is meant by passing between the lines, brilliant pass and led to a goal

Joe’s passing ability, and particularly the way he can punch the ball accurately through midfield, is massively underrated. He is on a par with Virgil in terms of his ability on the ball.

Although the best thing about him is that his middle name is Dave. Not David. Dave.

They named him after Nicholas Lyndhurst’s character in Only Fools and Horses…

Neither as good as big Joel M
