Joël MATIP: 2021/22

He played four consecutive games after returning from COVID. I guess he will be fine after the NT break.

That was a really weak first half today. What the hell were those 4 passes in the first 30 minutes towards the right side? Looked like an amateur. Better in the second half, but he’s playing some really sloppy passes lately. Get your shit together, please.

It was more of a Konate type of fixture in my opinion, but Jürgen knows best.

Yeah, some of those back passes were perplexing. I expected Konate to start today as I thought that Inter were more likely to expose him, while Burnley’s forwards play in a manner that is better suited to a centre back of his qualities. I wonder if Klopp will start Matip against Inter, he rotated him quite a bit in the first half of the season, probably due to risks to his fitness.

I felt he was trying to be sure the ball reaches the player he intends to rather than slows down due to the condition and the pitch and was trying to lob some of those. I’ll give him a pass for this game

Of the collective performance you’re going to pick Matip’s out? Not even odd, it’s just a bizarre.

Can you post video of you playing in similar conditions?

An interesting detail of the first half, yeah. Does it mean it was the only thing I thought that didn’t work? I don’t think it’s a disaster to mention it. Does it harm Joel Matip? The mood here? Anything else? Especially as it happened to him lately in a few games. Some sloppy passes and first touches around our box.

No, because luckily there’s no footage of me playing football as I was never in a million years the talent to be a professional footballer at the top level like he is. And yeah, it happens to the best, before someone mentions it. Tough conditions or not, it was how it was, I thought he should’ve done better (not only today) and that’s it.

Don’t want to jinx it :crossed_fingers:, but who would have thought that Matip will have more mins (2326) than Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Jota, and Mane.

Joel must be fun to be around, one of my favourite players.

I thought something flew in from the stands when Hendo had that stare look.

Hendo’s definitely not in good mood in last weeks. :joy:

Whack-a-mole?

Lighten up, would you please Hendo! :see_no_evil::heart_eyes:

Matip is far and away my number one favorite player at the club, probably in all of world football. But above all the fun zaniness and idiosyncrasies of his personality, I am thrilled the most for his health this season. Seeing him in the lineup as often as we have this year has been excellent.

Agree. Add to that, when I see Joel starting I realise how important signing Konate has been. Gives Joel sufficient time to recharge his batteries and Joe to recover, especially when games are coming thick and fast.

Joel Matip has made 28 appearances and starts so far this season and it’s only February.
He only made 25 appearances and 22 starts in the previous two entire seasons combined.:clap::clap:

I like Joel overall, but I’m certainly not a fan of his sometimes too relaxed/casual stuff. Does everything flat footed, on his heels. Although f*ck knows what would happen if he did certain things on his toes, he’d probably immediately injure both calves. Weird player and character, we often have them!
