When it was produced it was worth something, but hyperinflation meant it, and subsequent larger notes that were produced rapidly became worthless.

Yes I agree it is sad but once again being ruled by a corrupt dictator who didn’t allow any opposition and had them killed or jailed was the root cause.
Having lived through an inflation period that is not dissimilar to what is shown in these pictures, I don’t think there’s anything to laugh about. Imagine working your socks off for a month, getting paid in hard cash and running straight to the exchange office in order to protect the wages you use to feed your children, only to find that the money you have has devalued so much in the previous two hours that all you can exchange it for are two German marks (an equivalent of one euro today). It literally happened to my father more than thirty years ago, no one deserves to go through anything similar.
