You can only push the back line so high into the opponent’s half on a high press, or you’ll have a gap behind them where a guy like Sterling can sit just on his side of center and wait for a ball over the top. we call it seagulling over here. You’ve seen Allison do it a few weeks back, I think it was Mane he hit on the break with a punt up the pitch and he put it away.
45 games played so far this season.
That’s his top 3 number since he’s been at the club; 54, 48 and now 45.
If you understand Cantonese, this is a good analysis/POV on Hendo. It goes against the common perception that Hendo is not as good as before.
I’ll leave the translation to others.
I think he goes underappreciated as a 6, so often I see it said we need a back up for Fabinho.
I rarely see a difference in quality between the two, Henderson is certainly no big downgrade.
He was immense against Newcastle, did the work of 3 players whilst he was on.
Also now only behind Souness and Hughes for the number of trophies won as captain
One of our greatest players, a true legend.
It’s amazing. Spent so many years of his career being told he’ll never live up to the man who came before him, and he just sticks his down does his work, leads the boys and delivers win after win after win. And does so as an amazing ambassador to the club. That stuff with Mount is no less than I now expect of him. He’s a giant of a man.
One of the greatest captains, ever. There is only one Steven Gerrard and similarly there is only one Jordan Henderson.
One appearance away from being the most used player in a single season under Jürgen Klopp, currently level with Bobby in 17/18 season on 54 appearances.
Completely agree with this. Remember that he started as a part of the infamous CHAD at the time… it’s a an immense and breathtaking journey he undertook with us. And it’s not finished yet.
It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving and nicer guy than him.
And he took over, carried as a shadow and eventually owned being the replacement for Gerrard. That takes some personality.
Found this…
In this photo it is visible that Jordan Henderson’s biceps brachii are clearly struggling from extreme swelling. Such a rare condition is only possible due to excessive and frequent trophy lifting.
well…
There’s a story about him winning Keane onside that kind of sums him up. Keane shows up to the Sunderland reserves one day and watches them get thrashed by someone they shouldnt even be losing to and so decides to go into the changing room afterwards and lay into them. He tells them how worthless they all are, that at a club like Sunderland they should know they are playing for opportunities in the first team and yet they play like cannot be bothered. He then asked something that was supposed to be a rhetorical question, something like if any of them thought they’d done their prospects any good with that performance, and a 17 year old Hendo stuck his hand up and interrupted a raging Keane to tell him that not only did he think he did, but that he thinks he should already be playing for the first team. Keane, not know how to react to someone standing up for themselves in the midst of his rant, agreed, and told everyone else to be more like Hendo. Shortly after he gave him his league debut.
Keane only had Hendo with the first team for a few weeks before he was let go, but apparently was fully on board with the move and apparently called someone at the club (Kenny?) to tell him he was going to be a big success.
Top class in every way
