The interview title- impeccable (or terrible!) timing ![]()
A brilliant listen though. Love him
One excerpt: “In my team, every player has to defend. Every player. They all have to buy into it.” Said in a really ferocious tone.
In my opinion, that’s exactly the kind of mentality we are currently lacking with our newly formed squad this season.
This was a great watch. We are so lucky to have had him as our gaffer!
Was interesting how he talked about managing players differently to ensure this, and how his approach to individuals changed as they became big stars
Would have been interested in hearing some discussion around his decision to join Red Bull and the fallout from that rather than all that drivel about United.
As usual, he found the right words again.
I miss his presence at the club, but more as a person rather than as manager and I do wish he had carried on in some capacity with us, instead of Red Bull.
I miss both. Admittedly I was excited in the summer about the new signings. But I did say to a friend that I don’t think it will ever get better than the Klopp era. The ups and the downs. The feeling that we were the underdogs fighting the wealth of City. Over performing through passion, character, development. Recovering from big set backs which made winning even better.
Now we are one of the big spenders, with all of the attention and challenges that brings
On my oponion: The Liverpool FC team since the Klopp era are better than the teams of the 2000s. On this time, LFC has players such Mohamed Sissoko, Vladimir Simicer, Didi Hamann, Dirk Kuyt or Daniel Agger. Since 2015, we have or has players such Mo Salah, VVD, Georginio Wijnaldum, Andy Robertson, Sadio Mané (i do not like him since he joined Bayern in 2022) or Alisson, and now Alexander Isak and Flo Wirtz. And now with Arne Slot as manager.
But that’s my oponion. It’s okay, if you have another oponion. I am only a sympathizer of LFC.
Doubt many (any?) would disagree with that
Yeah, just a different context all round.
Klopp was a big factor in our success, but the club from a certain point in the 2010’s (after getting it wrong a few times) also found stability and upwards trajectory. Appointing Klopp was part of that.
In 00’s we had different kind of problems or limits shall we say, after those horrible 90’s (though I wasn’t following at the time), when it seemed like the club stagnated on all levels.
Still, what some of our coaches in the 00’s managed to accomplish was admirable, with a few big trophies and Rafa built a side that could go compete against anyone in Europe.
Under Klopp, the whole Liverpool machine was better equipped not to only compete, but win.
None of us could ever dislike Mané the footballer. He was a legend for us, and part of probably our best ever front three. I don’t care that he joined Bayern, although I don’t like them at all. It was time for him to move on, as was shown by his subsequent decline. He didn’t do much in Munich apart from punch Sane, so it’s nothing to hate him for.

Sane does have a rather punchable face
There’s an argument that the Klopp team of 2018-2020, that got 98 and 99 points, was our best team ever. Or at least the best football to watch
Should be easily be in the conversation for best British side ever despite Asterisk FC.
They had too much for most teams during that period, and they were already so far ahead before covid struck I don’t see why an asterisk is warranted - it was the same for everyone.
I was referring to City.
Oh yes, of course you meant Citeh. I misread what you said @ShadesOfRed. I just remember the asterisk was suddenly mentioned a lot around the covid title season, by those who felt our win had been diminished in some way. Got confused there.
Yes, those couple of years were amazing with a handful of defeats and some relentless and quite astonishing victories. I think the 4-0 Barca game was the most uplifting result probably since that first European Cup in 1977.
