Frenkie de Jong signs a new contract with Barca until 2029.
And to think back when Barca were trying to cash in on him, but he didn’t want to go… now he’s playing like one of the best again.
Always wondered why another top club (not being United in problems) didn’t push harder to get him. But perhaps it was a combination of the money Barca wanted (seeing as he was one of the rare ones who could generate serious money) and him not wanting to go.
With him and Pedri at the heart of the pitch they have some of the very best controlling midfielders in the world.
Some credit, if that is the right word, probably needs to go to the player who steadfastly refused to be pushed out. Maybe that was partly a salary thing, maybe partly that the clubs who were floating interest didnt interest him (Utd), but a big part was undoubtedly him backing himself to turn it around.
The Utd angle is interesting because he was kind of available and exactly what they needed. I dont know if I buy it but I have a friend who insists that Utd felt burned by their previous EtH/Ajax linked buys, specifically VdB, and decided to stay clear of it. Which really makes their transfer failures the gift that keeps on giving

Was it the summer they nearly sacked him? Might be another reason.

Just finished watching them beating Barcelona, we play them in 10 days, I’m not looking forward to that match. 
Opportunity for Trent as Carvajal has to have another surgery on his knee. After returning from his ACL injury a few weeks ago he suffered a calf strain that saw him sit out until this weekend, but after doing just the last 20 mins in the Barca game he felt something that is going to need to be cleaned up and will keep him out until the new year.
