I remember reading the talk was that the club wanted us to be a destination for young goalkeepers to develop. Even if they didn’t make it, they could still move on and have good careers due to the quality of coaching. It’d be similar to how some other academies are viewed i.e. Barcelona, Ajax, except we’d be focusing on goalkeepers.
I think it’ll come in very handy in the long-term in eventually replenishing the back-up goalkeeper spot. Train under a top GK, spend some time with us, feature in cup games and dead rubbers in league/Europe, sell, and bring the next one through. Eventually, we might have an elite GK on our hands already who could take the No.1 spot without needing to break the bank, and has already been educated on our ethos.
Sounds great on paper, very difficult to execute, but if done right, I can see the advantages of it.

I think it works out better if fsg are planning to go for their multi club model. Which from all indications they are.

Whenever I read the words ‘Technical Director’ in a sentence, my brain instantly thinks of some dude out there on the training pitch helping the boys with their first touch and passing.

Not a big blow. Hughes’s failure to get the Guehi deal over the line and he ended up at Man City was frustrating.
Heitinga found him frustrating to work with when he was trying to negotiating his move to Anfield.

I think it will be disappointing if he wants to go there I wonder if there is something behind the scenes we aren’t aware of, that puff piece would have to be re-examined.
Then again isn’t Anfield Watch one of the poorer clickbait types. Though as long as Edwards here I’m ok with that.

Bought some good players last summer but had a nightmare first season and should have done more this January imo.
I’m sure Edwards will have someone lined up unless he buggers off too.
Still can’t find any reliable enough source reporting Hughes’ departure as a possibility or likelihood?

Hettinga left looking for career advancement and his role was filled. You don’t get to have a new role created for you just because you’re now ready to come back. It’s a silly story

A silly story with rather poor sources (at least when it comes to England). Also, the first time Hughes was linked with a job at the Saudi club was about six months ago or so, so this is not quite breaking news.

Could this be part of Edwards remit for joining FSG?
We know Edwards was brought in to FSG to expand their club network and potentially add more clubs to the FSG banner, so could it be the case that he has found a club and Hughes will be sent there to run the club?
If Hughes goes to the Saudis and gets them to buy Salah for 150M, who are we to argue? 
In all seriousness, we don’t fully know his remit, so it’s hard to say how he is performing. We made some moves in the market last summer, so he closed out a number of big deals. But I don’t have a great feel for how he is doing for us.
