Liverpool FC - Pre-season (Part 2)

I think he will be awake for the start of the season.

Useful run out that. Saw some good things and some stuff that still needs work on.

Clean sheet so that’s good. Jacquet and Araujo very very different but equally effective. Frimpong stating his case. Kerkez I thought was poor and ran out of gas.

I just learned that they call our newJeremy JJ… and now they’re asking Milos about Dom’s aftershave :joy:

Good last run-out. Two goals, a clean sheet against a dangerous team. Still a week to train and prepare for Newcastle.

I’d give my vote to Frimpong. He was impressive during the first half, but I liked how he accepted to do the dirty defensive stuff during the second half when the legs got heavy all over the pitch. Ninety minutes for him today will do him the world of good.

All looking good right now. If we can bring one or two more players in, ie. for the right wing, this could become an enjoyable new season. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The middle still feels disjointed. Dom and Grav are a bit hit and miss - with each other and with the team in general. Grav still looks for too many safe passes and Dom syncs in and out of the flow of the game. Wirtz flitted in and out of the game but his role can only really be maximised if what’s behind him is solid.

Other than that I thought Rio found himself a bit lost as to what his role is and didn’t quite find it. He is less trying to win it by himself but now needs to find how to play with the rest of the team.

The defence looked a lot better organised, Still feel we were caught out a bit but that was more linked to the press the midfield was involved in and leaving a bit of space to the back line and where an out pass to a attacker between the lines suddenly ;eft us a bit exposed as they broke.

On the whole pretty good. Let’s see where Newcastle are next week!

Agree with all of this.

For me, the midfield doesnt´fit together. Dom likes to get the ball and run and shoot, closing down Wirtz´s space and meaning he doesn´t get the ball. Grav likes to either run with it or pass it sideways. Again, meaning Wirtz barely gets the ball. And neither of the two have proper defensive instincts.

Mac, Jones or Nyoni are probably a bit more of a fit for Wirtz in their ways of playing.

AraĂşjo nicked the pen after signing something. Sticky fingers like me used to be in the office after signing documents and forgot that the pen did not belong to me.

Andoni Iraola on Jacquet and Araujo:

“Jeremy played very well and also Araujo… by the way very good performance from Jeremie Frimpong. Some very good performances at the back.”

“I think everyone understands, every minute every action, we need the commitment. I am happy with the attitude of the players. I’m asking a little bit different for the players, they are slowly getting it. I’m happy with the attitude.”

Andoni Iraola on how Liverpool will prepare before Newcastle:

“We have to train. At the end we need to train together. We need to build relationships to have the ability to solve problems on the pitch and analyze what we can improve. This needs time, so we will use these weeks to get ready.”

Last take on today’s game, several players that stunk the place out last season looked far better today, Frimmy, Cody and Grav.

Amazing what a new coach can do to the confidence of players.

Alisson:

“Both of them played really well. Jeremy had a great first half, great on the ball, great defending, controlling the space behind, in front of him as well. Great performance.

“Ronald was really needed, nice to have a strong centre-back in the depth, that’s what we need to win trophies, that’s the mentality we need and to play next to Virgil is great for them.

We need all of them. The back four played really well. We run a lot, we fight a lot to get the result. We have to keep on going.”
