Liverpool FC - Pre-season (Part 2)

True. Anyway, looking back, it was the right choice to give this space some rest. I did endure the season just fine on my own, without the fans side of the shitshow.

I could take a shitshow after winning the league. And I trusted the owners to know how to assess things when the time would be right. Who knows who we would have gotten, had the owners been so impatient as some fellas here, and dismissed Slot mid-season. Or whether we would have ended up with a CL spot. Thankfully Iraola became available at the end of the season, and we could change things with more grace. Now I’m quite optimistic about this new era.

But enough of that, it’s in the past, I’m here to enjoy the ride with whomever is going to do so, and because more people than not are great company-in-red here.

Absolute foreshadowing of their new season antics - unnecessary too, as we already know.

I want to be optimistic like you mate.

I just want good football to watch every weekend regardless of the end result. Can’t tell the number of times I switched of the feed in despair during slots second season

Didn’t even want to comment here because I knew the discussion would be toxic.

The biggest issue with supporting a team that plays the way Iraola wants to is how simply the opposition can play through you if the efforts to win the ball back dont get well. Two good passes later and the opposition is running at an exposed pair of CBs. Thing is, teams were doing that to us last season even with the half arsed commitment we had to put pressure on the ball. So, whatever happens with this era its going to be better than what we’d become in the last one.

I think Slot’s selective cutting the passing lane didn’t work. Not a football expert but the guys who are there for us aren’t guys who can restrict the opponent to the sides , concede petty fouls (even though macca does an attempt at that).

And Virgil’s as well.

Difference between klopp and Guardiola was in how their teams shapeup to recover the ball when they lost possession.

Arne got a side embedded to get a team to pressure the opposing player who had the ball with volumes when his preferred style was to cut the passing

Plus in January we will have Ndukwe as well.

It’s not a guarantee

Thought the same when I’d watch his team, but then thought that this also was contrasting how he had such a long unbeaten run and how he would so often beat the big teams, all with a side very inferior to ours. So I’m hoping he can do wonders with the upgraded team and place.

The biggest difference was the two large CHs holding things up long enough for the others to sprint back in position to help defend in numbers.

I read in the Echo that the club are working on a plan to enable him to amass the required points to get a work permit by January.

The problem is the Matip role. There’s no club in world football which can have a Matip/VVD partnership.

We tried with Lovren switching Matip the other way around, we tried with the likes of Gomez , Konate etc…

Matip will be an unsung hero of klopps Liverpool and could have been much better if his body had held up

And we got Matip for a free transfer.

I do wish @sweeting does his whole thing of what we like him for and give us the Matip role definition

Key difference is it didn’t lead to a chance because the defence was solid to me. That was the key difference between Leeds and that game yesterday.

I didn’t see Monaco so couldn’t say. Anyhow I was far more comfortable with how we performed yesterday than I have been probably since last summer.

Almost everyone is a massive drop down from Pep to be fair. Jurgen isn’t and a few others perhaps.
Even with all their money, Man Cheaty wouldn’t have doninated us with any other manager during the Klopp years otherthan Pep. It’s sickening to think of the times we finished with 90 + points or whatever and still didn’t win the fucking league!
It would have been amazing to see Pep and Jurgen head to head with a more even playing field. But it is what it is I guess.
